A 34-year-old Pembroke Dock man was gaoled by Swansea Crown Court on Wednesday after claiming he had murdered a man in the Tenby area. For the offence of attempting to pervert the course of justice, Richard George Fairbrass was sent to prison for two years and three months.

The offence related to an admission he made during a police tape recorded interview while he was in police custody for other matters in January.

Within this admission he indicated that he had murdered a male person in the Tenby area and subsequently disposed of the body from an area at Stack Rocks, Castlemartin between August and October, 2004.

The admission led to a significant amount of resources being the use of police search, forensic and enquiry teams, coastguards being utilised at various times of the enquiry. The admission also led to the arrest of his female partner for murder. The inquiry made a link to an ongoing missing person enquiry being the disappearance of James Nutley from the Caldicott area who went missing in Tenby in October 2004. Mr. Nutley was visiting the town with friends for a golfing trip.

Fairbrass later retracted his admission during a further police interview which was conducted with him several weeks later.
