A man has been charged with attempting to murder a police officer following an incident in West Carmarthenshire.

Further to an incident on Sunday evening in which two police vehicles were damaged and a police dog was killed at a farm in the Laugharne area, a 35- year-old local man has also been charged with a number of other offences.

They include two counts of criminal damage to the police cars, one of criminal damage to the one police dog killed and two counts of affray. A full file will be submitted to the CPS for their consideration.

The man will appear in Carmarthen Magistrates Court on Wednesday, September 20. He has been detained under the provisions of the Mental Health Act.

Detective Inspector Frank Phillips, of Carmarthen Police Station, said: "This serious incident is being fully investigated and the officers involved appreciate the emotional responses generated by the tragic loss of an experienced police dog. I can reassure the public that no other person is being sought in connection with this incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public."
