Scolton Manor will be a hive of activity again this summer when it hosts a new series of Beekeeping Taster Sessions at the Pembrokeshire Beekeeping Centre.
The popular Pembrokeshire attraction, in partnership with the Pembrokeshire Beekeepers’ Association, will be hosting short introductory sessions to meet the on-site honeybees on Saturday, May 27, and Saturday, July 8 (1-3 pm).
The session planned for Saturday, June 24, has already sold out.
Guests will be given a guided tour of the Pembrokeshire Beekeeping Centre and, weather permitting, kitted up in bee suits to see the workings of a bee hive.
Paul Eades, apiary manager for Pembrokeshire Beekeepers’ Association, said the sessions are a great chance for people to understand how vital bees are to the environment and enjoy a fascinating afternoon.
“The Pembrokeshire Beekeeping Centre has become very popular with the public since it opened and we have been running taster sessions for the last few seasons to give non-beekeepers a feel for what it is all about and we’re looking forward to seeing even more people this year,” he said.
“We are keen to raise awareness of the environmental importance of bees and beekeeping and their role in pollination and people will learn about this when they attend.
“Added to that they will find out how natural Pembrokeshire honey is produced using a traditional country craft and maybe have the chance to taste it too.”
