Leading cancer charity, Macmillan Cancer Relief is calling on the people of South West Wales to join them in the Macmillan Miles Challenge from May 18 to 25, as an easy and fun way to help people living with cancer.
The challenge is to cover a mile in any possible way whether it be walking, running, swimming, cycling, knitting, people have even eaten a mile of spaghetti. The only limit is your imagination.
Last year, Jeanette Francis, seen here with Miles the Mouse, the face of the Macmillan Miles Challenge, raised over £10,000 with her friends, the 'Mad Mums' from the Tots Nursery, Haverfordwest, by walking a four-mile course from Clarbeston Road to Crundale. This year, they will be joining in the fun again and are encouraging everyone to join in.
The money raised during the Macmillan Miles Challenge will support people living with cancer by providing essential services for them and their families, such as information and counselling, specialist Macmillan medical staff, buildings for cancer treatment and care, as well as grants for patients in financial difficulties.
Ruth Mackay, fund-raiser for Macmillan in South West Wales said: "We are so grateful to the 'Mad Mums' for the fantastic amount of money they raised last year, and wish them well in their challenge this year.
"Now I am waiting to hear from all the other exciting events that might be happening. You can do anything, we've had miles of smiles, miles of coins, miles of knitting and even someone eating a mile of spaghetti!
"All the money raised will go to Macmillan services helping people loving with cancer."
It's easy to create your own challenge or turn your existing hobby into a Macmillan Miles Challenge.
