Another successful open day, organised by the Pembroke and District Committee of Macmillan Cancer Relief, was held recently at Pembroke Garden Centre.

Thanks are due to Simon and Alan Nicholas for permission to hold this all-day fund-raiser for the second year running.

The magnificent sum of £700 was raised.

Thanks also go to Marilyn Russell and her helper Pat Jephcott, of the Garden View Coffee Shop; to City Electrics, Pembroke Dock, for the gift of a tumble dryer and Firwood Homes, of Neyland Industrial Estate, for their barbecue table for the raffle; and to Southdown Farm, St. Florence, who donated a bag of potatoes for 'guess the potatoes in the sack', with the second prize being a CD kindly given by local group Animal Jack.

Music during the day was provided by The Vagrants Crew.

Another special event was held recently when Andrew Lustig, of Pembroke, organised a team of rugby players and non-players to raise money for the charity. Two matches were played - the first against a Guildford XV, score 38-37, and the second against Pembroke RFC, who scored 42 against the Barbarians' zero.

At the after-game festivities, a shirt signed by the Welsh squad who beat France was auctioned, raising £100, and a ball signed by the Cardiff team raised £80.

The magnificent total of £1,509.31 was presented to Mrs. Dilys Hanmer, their president. Well done Andrew and all your supporters.
