Tenby LVA have donated £1,000 to enable support staff at Tenby police station to work on during peak periods to monitor the town's CCTV and Pubwatch Radio network sytems. As part of an ongoing partnership, the radio system was introduced in the summer when licensed premises in Tenby were provided with radios which enable them to communicate not only with each other, but directly to the police station. During the month of August, there was a 27 per cent reduction in violent crime in the Tenby area compared to the same period last year. A contribution of various factors would have impacted on these statistics, which included an increased visible uniformed patrol in the area, complemented by the enhanced CCTV and radio coverage, with the licensed premises providing 'extra eyes and ears' around the town. Said Inspector Les Clark: "Violent crime and anti-social behaviour is not the sole responsibility of the police; it is the responsibility of all partner agencies, which include the town council and licensed trade. "We welcome the support we receive from these partners which assists the community in tackling such issues. "On a number of occasions, persons were asked to leave licensed premises, only to find they could no longer get into any other licensed premises in town, and in fact left the area."
