Sir, As a holidaymaker in Tenby for over 40 years and a property owner for the last nine of those years, I would like to strongly support the letter you published from Mr. Ivor Jenkins regarding the council's decision not to back the local police in their latest attempt to curb late opening hours. From reading the many letters in the Observer concerning the late opening hours of licensed premises and the trouble over drunken behaviour, I too found it quite extraordinary that the elected members of the council did not back the police in their request; presumably they did not want to upset the licensees based in the town centre. Surely they should be representing the silent majority of the people of Tenby and certainly the all-year-round visitors to Tenby with families to whom, loutish drunken behaviour is an anathema. What is the point of councillors telling the inspector that they want 'more bobbies on the beat', if they take no notice of what the police ask for, when an opportunity to do something positive arises. I hope local voters will take appropriate action when the council election time comes around.
