A young local swimmer has smashed a record in his event, going under the minute barrier for the first time.

Thirteen-year-old Johnnie Delahunty, a Year Nine pupil at Netherwood School and a member of Tenby Dolphins Swimming Club, took part in the West Wales ASA Championships held in Penlan, Swansea, last weekend. He swam in the heat of the boys 13 and under 100 metres freestyle event, recording a time of 59.84 - smashing the previous West Wales record of 1.02.07 by more than two seconds. The finals were not held until later that evening, but once again Johnnie swam under the minute, again setting a new record as he clocked a time of 59.78.
