League football returned to the top teams in Pembrokeshire on Saturday after a fortnight hiatus concentrating on West Wales and Senior Cup matches and, for Narberth, the return was a successful one after two consecutive defeats.
They may not have won their away match at Johnston, yet they were able to stem a mini losing streak that, had it stretched even further, could have had a more serious effect. If winning is a habit, then losing is too and no guesses for wondering which habit teams would like to get addicted to.
So a 4-4 draw at Glebelands was a welcome result, although all three points would have been better.
Richie Adams got the ball rolling for the visitors, before Nathan Davies, Ashley Williams and in-form Jordan Williams finished the scoring off in what was probably the most exciting match in the division over the weekend.
Tenby entertained in-form Monkton and sent the Swifts packing following a hard fought 1-0 win after Jordan Richards slipped one past the visiting 'keeper.
The first round of the second division cup got under way, with Kilgetty facing a tough examination at the hands of Hakin United's second team. With such a large playing base to choose from, the Vikings' second string would be a match for many a first division side, as can be demonstrated by their position in the second division (they are second), yet Kilgetty have found a little bit of form of late, so it was no surprise to see them win 2-1 at home.
Ross Hurst scored the opener for the Kingsmoor outfit, before Duanne Rossiter scored the winner to secure passage into the second round.
Carew made it two cup wins in a row as they hosted St. Ishmaels. Never an easy team to play against, the homesters managed a 2-1victory following last weekend's senior cup win as Neilson Cole and Ian Sefton both found the back of the net.
Saundersfoot Sports travelled to Lamphey and had no problems in defeating the home side 5-1. Geoff Marsh was the hero of the day, scoring a well-deserved hat-trick, while Danny Caine and Russell Evans added the others.
In division three, Pendine suffered their sixth defeat of the season as they went down 4-1 away at Haverfordwest Cricket Club. Once again their defensive frailties were there for all to see and once again, Robbie Waters was there to score their only goal, but once again, the result was the reverse of what they wanted.
In stark contrast to their West Carmarthenshire neighbours, St. Clears continue to shine as they secured the biggest win of the day. The Saints marched in to slam nine past Hubberston, while conceding just one.
Steve Thomas led the rout with five goals of his own, while Owain Evans struck a brace, before Sean Seymour-Davies and Nick Rees added the others.
Not such a good day for Narberth seconds, however, as they went down 5-1 at home, with Mike Ryder scoring their only goal.
Lawrenny lost at home to Broad Haven as the visitors ran out 4-2 winners. While it may not have been a good day for the club as a whole, it was for Joe Kidney, as the striker managed yet another brace to add to his tally of goals this season.
Manorbier United had a day to forget, however, as they lost 6-0 at home against Merlins Bridge's seconds.
Despite goals from Ceri Brace and Sam Harts, Carew seconds were unable to make it a day of double celebration for the club's senior sides as they lost 3-2 at Milford Athletic.
St. Florence didn't fare too well in Milford Haven either, as Milford United's second string beat them 4-1.
Saundersfoot Sports' reserves had a day to forget also as they lost 5-1 at home to Cosheston Cougars as Phil Horsley scored their only goal, while Tom Grover scored Manorbier United's seconds' only goal in their 5-1 away defeat at Hook.
Neither St. Clears nor Kilgetty seconds had fixtures over the weekend.
