Kilgetty ended their season on a high by securing a point against Haverfordwest County in a game many would have expected them to lose.
Having shipped 20 goals against Pennar in recent weeks, manager Norman James would have been dreading a trip to the Bridge Meadow, especially after the Bluebirds beat them 13-3 earlier in the season, yet he witnessed his side produce one of their best performances of the season in their last game of this campaign.
Catalyst for the 2-2 draw was Jonnie Lewis, a central defender, who is unable to play as often as he would like due to work commitments. Kilgetty have five points to their name in 26 games and Lewis has played in every game in which the Kingsmoor outfit have had a share of the spoils or earned a win; James said he was instrumental in how the team performed.
"Jonnie playing makes a huge difference to us. He's an experienced campaigner and talks to everyone around him and that seems to gee the boys up.
"I'm a very happy man. We deserved a point from the game and even they say that. It's a good way to finish the season."
The scores were tied 1-1 at half-time with Rhys Hewson grabbing Kilgetty's goal, before an own goal secured a point in the second half."
Following the game, Kilgetty 'keeper Sam Franklin was invited to go and play with Haverfordwest County's McWhirter youth team next year. The talented teenager has won many plaudits for his efforts in what has been a taxing campaign, yet his standout performances have gained him recognition for what could turn out to be an exciting future.
Hakin United were presented with the division one trophy on Saturday in front of their devoted supporters, but not before Narberth had given them a game to remember at Jesse Road.
After 70 minutes, the scores were tied 2-2 yet the fitness of the visiting side counted in the final few minutes as they pulled clear to win 3-2.
Narberth took a deserved 2-0 lead going into the break after Adi Jones had put them ahead with two goals, the second coming from the penalty spot.
Hakin responded with two goals in the second as they upped their efforts to secure the title on the day. A draw looked the likely result, yet in the dying moments, as so often has happened for Narberth this year, Hakin sneaked in to win the game, leaving manager Steve Jones despondent.
"It was another tremendous performance to a man. It was a very, very pleasing performance by us. I think a lack of fitness told in the end.
"Hakin are a superb footballing side and extremely fit and whatever you throw at them they just keep coming at you."
Jordan Richards has certainly impressed many people this season and he was at it again on Saturday as Tenby defeated Goodwick United 3-2.
The talented striker scored a sublime hat-trick against the Phoenix Park outfit to sink their slim title aspirations as the Seasiders put the visitors to the sword.
St. Clears lost away at Goodwick United's seconds 4-2, with manager Charlie Smith saying it was a 'decent' game considering there was nothing riding on it.
St. Clears were already relegated prior to the commencement of the game, while Goodwick can only finish in mid-table.
The home side took a 2-0 lead in an even first half, before Lloyd Evans finished off an excellent team move that proved to be one of their finest goals of the season.
Goodwick extended the lead early in the second, before Martin Thomas rounded the 'keeper to reduce it, but the writing on the wall came soon after as Goodwick scored another with just a few minutes to go.
"It was a meaningless game really," said Smith. "But it was actually quite a good game as we went out to enjoy it. That's how we intend to finish the season now. We're just going to go out there and enjoy ourselves."
Pendine are still lying in the relegation zone after they could only muster a 2-2 home draw with Letterston.
Gulls manager Frank Roberts attributed the draw to a stand-out performance by the visiting 'keeper who pulled off a series of fabulous saves to deny the home side a valuable and much-needed win.
Pendine dominated for the majority of the game, but could only go into the break at 0-0. A deflected Ian Derbyshire shot put the home side ahead, before a breakaway goal levelled matters prior to Robert Thomas scoring the home team's second.
Letterston then had a player sent-off and absorbed copious amounts of pressure as the game wore on, but they scored from a last minute penalty to deny the home side the win.
"I'm a bit sick really," said Roberts. "We dominated throughout and I couldn't have asked for any more from the team. We played really well, but just couldn't get those extra goals we deserved."
Saundersfoot Sports' season is finishing with a bit of a whimper. After being trounced last week, they lost heavily again on Saturday as St. Ishmaels defeated them 4-0.
Better news for Manorbier United, however, as they entertained Haverfordwest Cricket Club in division three and won 5-2. Neil Lane was the chief architect of the visitors' demise as he struck an excellent hat-trick, while Ben Hall finished with a brace.
Such has been Narberth's injury problems this year, they were forced to play their second team clash against Merlins Bridge with four players over the age of 40.
The seconds played after the first team in this home clash and first team manager Steve Jones ended in defence alongside John O'Connell who is 52, Phil Scourfield and Paul Phillips. With Nigel Thomas in goal, the combined age of the five was close to 200, yet for the majority of the game, they proved that experience really does count in football.
They eventually lost 5-2 as the Wizards' superior fitness told, but not before Dan Jones and Tony Evans had scored for the home side.
Lawrenny travelled to Solva seconds and came home with three points in the bag after winning 3-0.
The goals were shared around as James Bollinger struck first, followed by Dean Morris and Owen James.
Tenby seconds played host to Pennar Robins yet lost 4-1.
Carew seconds were involved in the closest game of the afternoon as they entertained Clarbeston Road and narrowly lost 5-4. Tom Richards scored the first for the home side, before a James Hinchliffe double gave the home team hope. Rhys Davies completed the scoring for the homesters, yet it was not enough as Pennar were just a little too strong on the day.
Kilgetty seconds have a relegation battle on their hands, but they could do nothing away at Johnston as they lost 8-0.
Ashley Smith was at it again for St. Florence as he scored alongside Jamie Roberts, yet their efforts were not enough to prevent Prendergast Villa winning 8-2, while a Richard Cope goal was all Saundersfoot Sports had to show for their hard work against Milford United as they lost 2-1
Better news for St. Clears' second, however, as they put the disappointment of not being able to raise a side last week behind them to win 3-1 at home against Pembroke Boro, with Aled Snelling, Neil Thompson and Gethin Stone grabbing the goals.
In Monday night's games, Tenby beat Johnston 2-0 away from home, Narberth lost to Solva 8-6, Pendine's survival chances were dealt another blow as they lost 3-1 against Prendergast Villa, while Saundersfoot lost heavily again as Angle defeated them 5-0.
St. Clears lost at home to St. Ishmaels 1-0, while Lawrenny's fine finish continued as they won 5-1 against Hubberston.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Kilgetty seconds defeated Camrose 4-3, while Carew seconds warmed up for their forthcoming cup final by beating Milford Athletic 3-1.
