After a host of teams had an extended Christmas break due to the cold snap, the majority of clubs were back in action over the weekend to help burn away the extra pounds gained over the Yuletide season, although there were still a few postponements.
Kilgetty got their New Year off to a good start with a fine 3-0 home win over Letterston in the Senior Cup. After an indifferent lead up to Christmas, they played with great assurance against a team they were expected to beat, although as any club taking part in cup competitions know, slip-ups can occur.
Nicky Cope was the hero of the day with two goals, while Mike Scale chipped in with the other.
Narberth haven't found the going easy this season at al, although they, too, made it through to the next round after a nail-biting game against Pennar Robins away. To all and sundry, it appeared the game was going to head in to extra-time as Liam Woodford gave Narberth the lead, before Pennar equalised a minute later. One minute after that, Ade Jones nipped in to give Narberth the advantage, before Pennar equalised again just 60 seconds later and as extra-time loomed, Kyle Quartermaine scored with effectively the last kick of the match. All the goals were scored in the last five minutes of an extraordinarily tense game.
Back to league soccer and Carew entertained Neyland and, although they gave a better account of themselves in this match, they still went down 4-2, Richard Bullock and Sam Harts scoring the goals for the home side.
In the Division Two Cup, Saundersfoot Sports made it through to the next round after travelling to Pembroke Boro and coming away with a 3-2 win. Danny Caine and Sam Coleman, who scored twice, grabbed the all-important scores in that match.
Meanwhile, the game between Pendine and Milford United was postponed.
In Division Two, Tenby romped to a commanding 7-1 home victory over Camrose as Daryll Mansbridge scored twice together with single scores from Dean Rossiter, Phil Catlin, Haydn Shapcott, Gareth Lewis and Marcus Lyons.
In the Third Division, Narberth Seconds travelled to Broad Haven and came away with no points following a 5-2 defeat, Sam Mills and Gavin James scoring for the Bluebirds, while Lawrenny lost 2-0 at home to St. Clears.
Given the Saints' form this season, the result wouldn't have come as a surprise, although it was a bit of a shock not to see Eddie Wiggins's name on the score sheet, given he had scored in every league game up to Christmas. Instead, both goals were scored by Sam Thomas.
In another match, St. Florence entertained Prendergast Villa and drew 1-1 thanks to a goal by Scott Smith.
Kilgetty Seconds travelled to Johnston in Division Four yet lost 4-0, while a Mike Cornick goal was not enough to prevent Saundersfoot Sports' second team losing 3-1 at home to Goodwick United.
Finally, in the first leg of the Division Cup round two matches played, Tenby Seconds beat their Hundleton counterparts 3-0, while Pendine's reserves lost 7-4 away at Hundleton.
