Carew's dream of cup glory is over, for this season at least; after they lost 5-1 at home against Merlins Bridge. Despite gaining in confidence over the past couple of weeks, Gerald Hicks's team were no match for the cup favourites as the visitors took control from start to finish. They were the dominant team throughout the afternoon and thoroughly deserved their win, despite some resistance by the homesters. Gareth Lewis is more akin to stopping people from scoring in his role as central defender, but he was the only one to score for Carew with a rasping second half shot. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, as Ryan Thomas, Wayne O'Sullivan and a Steve McNabney brace settled matters for the visitors. It wasn't such good news for Narberth either as they lost their Division One clash at home against Haverfordwest County 2-1. A few months ago, County were such a shambles that the Bluebirds would have been confident of beating them blindfolded, but a change in personnel and attitude has changed their outlook and they are now one of the most feared teams in the league. This being said, Narberth produced a gutsy performance to push them all the way and were unlucky not to get anything from it as they conceded an own goal and another by Craig George, before Morgan Preece reduced the deficit with one of their own. If anyone fancies a trip to the Bridge Meadow one evening in early April, then go along to the Division Two Cup Final between Kilgetty and Saundersfoot as it promises to be a cracker. Kilgetty may have booked their passage through last week, but this week it was the turn of Saundersfoot as they defeated Milford Athletic 3-2. This was a close game, make no mistake about it, but Chris Jenkins's men were the better side and deserved their win thanks to goals by Sam Coleman, Danny Caine and Phil Jones. Another team that secured a fine win was Manorbier United. After defeating Pendine 1-0 last week, they travelled to Angle and hammered the home side 4-1. Paul Maytum was the hero, striking home a fine hat-trick, while David Blackwell scored the other. Angle's goal was scored by Jason Davies. After beating Fishguard in last week's cup semi- final, Kilgetty played them again this week and won by the same 3-1 margin. The home team harassed the visitors just like they did last week, but in the end, Kilgetty's superior quality told. Carl Lewis may have sprinted home for Fishguard's goal, but Darren Rossiter, Jack Bevan and Geoff Marsh were in fine form for Andrew Cope's men and their goals secured the three points on offer. Not such happy news for Pendine, however, as their season continues to slip downwards. They lost 2-1 away at Johnston. If only they could manage to field a full team every week then they would be right up there pushing for a promotion spot. Unfortunately for them, this isn't the case and despite playing well at Glebelands, it wasn't good enough. Youngster Tom Roberts scored the goal for Pendine, who were forced to play their eighth different goalkeeper between the sticks as Julian Blewitt took the gloves. Roberts equalised with about 15 minutes to go, but there was to be no share of the points as the Tigers scored the winner with virtually the last kick of the game. It's not a nice thing to say, but St. Clears look doomed to spending next season in Division Three after they conceded three at home against Clarbeston Road. They didn't play badly by any means, but when your luck is down, your luck is down, and so it proved on Saturday. Tenby's luck isn't down, though, as they kept their faint promotion hopes alive with a fine 2-0 win at home against Pembroke Boro. The Boro are one of those tricky teams that either performs or they don't, and on Saturday they played well, but not well enough to beat Neil Finlay's team. Mo Safin and the impressive Jim Thomas scored the goals for Tenby. Lawrenny made the long trek north to Newport and came away with a fine 3-2 win. Manager Chris Buckle must have been delighted with the performance of his players who have blown hot and cold this year. On Saturday, they were nothing but hot, however, as Mike Jolly and Mike Howe with a rare double, sneaked the win for Buckle's boys. Unfortunately, St. Florence had a day to forget as they lost 7-0 at home against Haverfordwest Cricket Club. In Reserve Division One, Narberth won 5-1 away at Neyland, while in Reserve Division Two, goals by Rob Beynon, Paul Mansbridge, Dean Rossiter and Jamie Morgan secured three points for Kilgetty. Elsewhere in the division, Tenby hammered Lawrenny 5-0, St. Clears lost to Pembroke Boro 4 -1, while Pendine entertained Hundleton and lost 7-1.
