Division One

Carew 0 Monkton Swifts 3

This game had the potential to be a classic; in the end it turned out to be anything but, unless of course you are a Monkton supporter. With Narberth's game against St. Ishmaels being called off due to the weather, Carew had a real chance to gain points on the Division One challengers and after beating the Bluebirds convincingly in recent weeks, they would have been confident of achieving something from this game. The truth was, they didn't. Despite a couple of early chances for Carew, the game belonged to Monkton as they showed just why they are the leading team in the county with this 3-0 demolition. Steve Davies gave the visitors the lead after 25 minutes when he beat the offside trap to score. Soon after and Ben Goldsmith showed his class to score the second. With the wind at their backs in the second half, Carew would have been looking for an early score, but it was Monkton who got their first as Clem Boswell nipped one past Ian Kerrison to put the game beyond doubt with at least 40 minutes still to play; and the truth is they should have scored more. Carew just weren't in it at all as the Swifts closed them down in defence and stretched them wide in attack, putting them one step closer to a fourth successive league title.

Second Division Cup - semi-final

Johnston 2 Pendine 3 (after extra-time)

Pendine are through to the final of the Second Division Cup and they had to rely on one of the goals of the season to get them there. At the start of the game, the supporters watching wouldn't have given the Seagulls any hope against the Tigers, especially when Johnston scored after a couple of minutes. In truth, Pendine were second best for the majority of the first half as Johnston stretched the 'Gulls' defence, especially when they played the ball wide. But this Pendine team is made of strong stuff and they were not about to give in easily. Towards the end of the half, and against the run of play, they managed to string a few passes together and Dwayne Reynolds rounded the 'keeper to score. Minutes later, Johnston were stunned once again when Rob Thomas's shot crept through the legs of the Tigers' custodian to give them an unexpected 2-1 interval lead. The second half was just as tight, with the Tigers pressing hard for an equaliser, but the Pendine defence held firm; that was until the final five minutes when Lee Walters blasted one home to put the game into extra-time. Fortunately, Pendine managed to pull themselves together and took the lead for the third and final time when Rob Waters's volley from 20 yards sailed into the back of the net. It was an excellent goal, fitting of an excellent game, and if the Gulls can maintain this form for the final, then they have a good chance of success.

Division Two

Kilgetty 4 Pembroke Boro 1

Kilgetty produced one of their most complete displays of the season to beat the Boro at home and manager Andrew Cope had nothing but praise for his charges. "We linked really well and there was some excellent play up front. They were a bigger side than us and we had to pass the ball around to get something from it. Our one-touch play was too much for them." The homesters were 2-1 up at the break with goals from Anthony and Jack Bevan for Kilgetty and Phil Hay for Boro. The lead was extended soon after the interval when Jack Bevan added his second and the hat-trick was not long in coming as Kilgetty's interplay proved too much for the Boro defence again. That goal was scored 10 minutes into the second half and more should have come as they created plenty of other opportunities, but a win is a win, even if it wasn't as convincing as they would have liked.

Clarbeston Road 2 St. Clears 0

"I admit it, we were poor." That was the stark view of Saints' boss Mark Snelling who had to endure his team's sluggish performance in an afternoon of woe. The Saints have strung some good results together of late to pull themselves away from the relegation zone, but this result puts them right back in the mixer, even though they have a couple of points to spare; the truth is, they can't afford to lose any more games like this. Credit to Clarbie, though, they played some excellent football and thoroughly deserved their win. "They were much the better side," admitted Snelling. "They were especially good in the first half and were all over us; I think we only had one shot all game, which shows how good they were and how bad we were." Sion Price and Joules Ward got the goals for Clarbie.

Saundersfoot Sports 3 Angle 1

Saundersfoot Sports have moved up two places in the division two league table to sixth position with a comfortable win at home to Angle. The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes with a header after Sports were guilty of some poor marking, but 10 minutes later Danny Caine equalised with a direct free-kick which beat everybody. Five minutes before the interval, Darren Umanee on the other side of the field also scored with a direct free-kick for Sports, who had the cushion of a one goal lead at the break. Midway through the second half, Tom Davies made the game safe for Saundersfoot when he came on as a substitute and scored from his first touch with an overhead kick. For Sports, Ben Gray, playing out of position at centre back, had an excellent game and Richard Thomas was sound in goal.

Third Division Cup - semi-final

St. Florence 3 Lamphey 1

On a nice day in Angle, both sides played some good passing football Lamphey started brighter and were rewarded with a goal by Gordon Skyrme who took advantage of a mistake in midfield Although being a goal down, St. Florence kept their heads up and made it 1-1 with a stunning 25-yard strike from Scott Smith. The second half started much the same as the end of the first half, with the Saints on top. St. Florence then capitalised with a well-earned goal from Adam Johns with a great solo effort. St. Florence were still piling on all the pressure and went 3-1 up with an own goal. For the Saints, it was a fantastic team performance from goalie to forward and every player played exceptionally well to clinch a place in the final.

Division Three

Lawrenny 0 Haverfordwest Cricket Club 4

Although Lawrenny played better than in the previous week's game, the Cricketers, who lie in second position in the table, were too strong on the day. Nevertheless, Lawrenny put up a fight, particularly in the first half, until Danny Potter gave the visitors the lead after 40 minutes with a low shot after running on to a through ball. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Potter scored again, this time from a corner. Lawrenny continued to battle hard and Jim Kinnear came close with a header, but the Haverfordwest 'keeper pulled off a point-blank save. With 10 minutes of the match remaining, Danny Potter completed a hat-trick when he scored from the edge of the box and another early order batsman David Davies made it four for the Cricketers when he rounded the Lawrenny 'keeper. For Lawrenny, Jamie Lewis had a shot saved on the line when it looked as if he would score the consolation goal. Mike Jolly played well in midfield for Lawrenny, as did Andrew Cole at the back. Manorbier United 4 Broad Haven 0

Manorbier continued their promotion challenge with a hard-earned victory against a battling Broad Haven side. The boys from the retirement village looked to do anything but put their feet up and in the first 20 minutes played much the better football, against the league leaders. Fortunately, home 'keeper Mike Brown was equal to any attempts on goal that Broad Haven created. For not the first time this season, however, captain Ben Hall turned the match towards his Manorbier team when he rammed in a low drive from 20 yards after good work from Jamie Robinson. The goal clearly settled the Yellows and two further goals soon followed. Firstly, Mike O'Neill won the ball in midfield and pinpointed the run of Simon Bolton, who dinked the ball over the 'keeper for a 2-0 lead, in a super finish. But even better was to follow, when Ben Hall got his second, just before the break (in a moment reminiscent of Beckham v Wimbledon, 95/96), chipping the 'keeper from fully 40 yards for an amazing goal! Although the 3-0 scoreline was flattering, perhaps it was evened out in the second half as the Yellows played in a much-improved manner and created many scoring opportunities, including a rasping strike from Jamie Robinson, brilliantly saved by the Broad Haven 'keeper. Despite this, only one further goal was added when Josh Hawkes broke free of the defence, rounded the 'keeper and sealed the three points. For Manorbier, Sam Reeve had an excellent game at right-back and Ben Hall was influential in midfield. The match was sponsored by No 25 Café ( Tenby).

Reserve Division One

Narberth 1 Milford Utd. 1

A goal by Nigel Williams salvaged some pride for the Bluebirds as defeat beckoned against Milford United, but this really was a game they could have won. The visitors are well above the Bluebirds in the league and if league form was anything to go by then this should have been a walk in the park for them. but Narberth were in no mood to surrender as they pulled off a creditable draw. Mike McCarthy was on target for the visitors.

Reserve Division Two

Fishguard Sports 3 Saundersfoot Sports 5

This was an excellent performance from a Saundersfoot team who are three places below Fishguard Sports in the Reserve Division Two league table. Although Jamie Vaughan netted twice for Fishguard, supported by a goal from Robert Thomas, it was not enough to guarantee victory for the north of the county team. Two young players, Tom Spencer, with two, and Matthew Baxter got on the scoresheet, as did Paul Evans, who nodded one in. Fishguard also conceded an own goal to rub salt into the wound.

Hubberston 1 Tenby 1

Both Hubberston and Tenby remain in the same positions in the league in 10th and12th place, respectively, after sharing the points in this one-all draw. Mike Evans put Hubberston in front in the first half when he lobbed the Tenby 'keeper, although the visitors continued to battle well. The game became scrappier in the second half, but Tenby drew level with a goal by Andy Ravenscroft from a corner. For Tenby, Wayne Callan played well on the right as did Lee Simmons at left-back. Mark Reed pulled off some good saves in goal and Stuart Maclaren followed up his goal the previous week with a good all-round display on the left.

Haverfordwest Cricket Club 3 Lawrenny 0

Haverfordwest Cricket Club had their second success of the day over Lawrenny who failed to score in reply to the three goals netted by the Cricketers. For the first 10 minutes, Lawrenny were poor and the Haverfordwest team took advantage to take the lead through Alan Edmunds and then increase it with a goal by Julian Wood. Although disrupted with five changes from the team selected originally, Lawrenny started to play some football, but were unable to make the breakthrough. Prior to the interval, Andrew Collins got through after being put in a scoring position by Mat Flowers, but the Haverfordwest 'keeper pulled off an excellent save. In the second half, the Cricketers continued to create chances and worked hard to retain possession. Julian Wood picked up his second goal when he capitalised on a defensive error by the visitors who had no way of getting back after being three goals down. Mat Flowers was full of energy in midfield for Lawrenny and Kelvin George played well at fullback.

Pendine 2 Letterston 4

Pendine's second string played their first game for a while at home and were obviously not used to their surroundings as they produced a dire display to lose against Letterston. The visitors are no mugs when it comes to football and Gulls' manager Frank Roberts would have been confident that his team could have got something from the game, despite being 2-1 down at the break. That goal was scored by Richard Pearce, although they could only manage one more in the second period when Justin Stevens scored, but by then they had already conceded four. Jason McKee scored twice for Letterston, backed up by goals from Simon King and Matthew Lewis.

St. Clears 9 Manorbier Utd. 2

"This was a brilliant performance from us. If we win our last two fixtures, we could even get promoted, especially if Solva slip up." That was the view of Saints' second team spokesman Rob Phillips after he played in this rout of Manorbier. Despite the number of goals, surprisingly there were no hat-tricks scored, although Nigel Price, Colin Reynolds and Steve Phillips all grabbed two goals apiece, with Liam Fitzpatrick, Andrew McCabe and Mark Pickersgill all getting on the score sheet. They should have managed more goals really, considering their possession, but credit must go to Manorbier for holding on, although they never really looked like scoring themselves and only managed two as they were own goals scored by the Saints!
