Division One

Carew 6 Milford United 1

Carew picked up their fifth win in six matches to maintain the fine form that they've shown this season. Super striker Mike Boswell, who has recently had trials with Wrexham, scored four times for the villagers and his goals were supplemented by strikes from Haydn Shapcott and Paul Bullock. Mathew Charnley was the only United player to find the back of the net.

Tenby 1 Monkton Swifts 17

Tenby could only field 10 players, but each of them was praised after the match by Dene Hurlow, who was on managerial duties. Commenting after the match, he said: "Everybody performed very well to the best of their abilities. We have no complaints with the boys who took the field. The boys are doing their best and, although it is an uphill struggle, their loyalty is superb." Tenby had a surprising amount of possession and battled hard. Attempts to play football against a very strong Monkton Swifts team were not successful and as a result Tenby got crowded out. In the second half, Tenby attempted a more direct route towards goal and were rewarded when Perry Broadhurst scored. He was the best of the Tenby players on the day and played his heart out in midfield. Once again Colin Wherrett showed his experience in defence. Steve Davies scored seven times for Swifts and seemed to find the back of the net with every touch of the ball. Dean Driscoll had a hat-trick, Daniel Scourfield and Marcus Taylor scored two each and the other goals were scored by Dai Patterson, Ben Goldsmith and Lee Jones.

Solva 1 Narberth 5

Narberth manager Paul Phillips was full of praise for his team after they bounced back from defeat last week in the Senior Cup to record a resounding victory away at Solva. If the Bluebirds form in the cup was short-lived, there seems to be no problem with their form in the league as they once again showed their class to overwhelm the opposition. Chief architect for the win was striker David Gillard, who scored all of the visitors' goals. When it's his day, he really does fill his boots. Saturday certainly belonged to him and Phillips couldn't contain himself from waxing lyrical about his skills. "When his mind is on it he'll score goals and his mind was certainly on it on Saturday. He was simply superb. It was a much improved performance from the team and I'm delighted with the win." The first 20 minutes was relatively even, but once Gillard rounded the 'keeper for his first, the shackles were off and Narberth began to express themselves and Solva were left in their wake. They created chances at will, but only Gillard could get on the score sheet. Not that it mattered, as all of his goals were of the highest quality. None was better than his third, an astonishing volley from a James Luxton cross, although his second came close in terms of excellence; being a shot from 25 yards. Solva were barely in the game, although they did pull one back just before the break, but going into the interval 3-1, there was only going to be one winner and that was Phillips and his team.

Division Two

Milford Athletic 2 Saundersfoot Sports 2

This was a good performance by Saundersfoot Sports in a match between two evenly balanced teams. All of the goals came in the second half. Tom Davies gave the visitors the lead after 20 minutes when James Caine headed back a cross into the box and Davies was on hand to tap the ball home. Milford Athletic equalised with a 30-yard shot by Jason Hiscocks. Daniel Colley regained the lead for Sports to cap a fine performance and it looked as if the visitors would hold on for a draw. However, with eight minutes of the match remaining, Phil West found the back of the net after a free-kick. For Saundersfoot, Ben Evans had another good game in goal and Daniel Colley was a livewire in midfield.

Fishguard 1 Kilgetty 1

There were few clear chances to score from either side during the first half, although Fishguard looked dangerous from set plays and corners, with Kilgetty firing some good crosses in from both flanks, but the game went in at half time with a score of nil-nil. During the second half, Fishguard seemed to have the upper hand and got in behind the Kilgetty defence. One cross turned shot as it bounced off the Kilgetty bar and Dai Lewis was called upon to make some fine saves. At the other end, brothers Jack and Josh Bevan linked well, and Josh's pass set up Cope, whose shot was just the wrong side of the post. As the game drew into the last 20 minutes, a stroke of luck fell Fishguard's way. Dai Lewis, Kilgetty's 'keeper, did well to cover on the edge of his 18- yard line, but the ball fell kindly to Marshallsay to strike at goal. Geoff Marsh, Kilgetty's right back, covered the goal-line, but an unkind bounce saw the ball go over his foot and into the net. Kilgetty pressed on, and a neat run from Jack Bevan nearly paid dividends, but was eventually crowded out by some good defending. Kilgetty eventually got a deserved equaliser as Darren Rossiter fired a left foot volley into the top corner from 18 yards. With 10 minutes left, both sides continued to push forward, but the game finished even.

Prendergast Villa 1 Pendine 2

Pendine may have come away with the points, but it wasn't all plain sailing for the Seagulls as it was real backs to the wall stuff to hold on to their lead as the second half went on. The game was tied nicely at one goal apiece going into the interval, with Jack Morris scoring for the Gulls and James Green for Villa. However, once Robbie Waters grabbed the all-important second, Villa came back strongly and dominated the rest of the game. Pendine 'keeper Adam Clapperton literally saved the visitors from defeat as he produced a man of the match performance that saw him generate some wonderful saves. Manager Justin Blewitt was happy with the result and is sure his team can go on and grab promotion. "It was tough, especially in the second half, but we showed what we can do and we can move on from here. We just missed out on promotion last season, but we've got a few new players this season and hopefully that will help us in our bid for Division One."

Pennar Robins 3 St. Clears 0

It goes without saying that this was not the result that the Saints wanted, but manager Mark Snelling had no complaints as the division leaders showed their class on the day. "We competed well for an hour," he said. "But we didn't really look like scoring. They're definitely the best team we have played all season and for most of the game we did well, but once the first goal went in there was only going to be one winner. It wasn't for a lack of effort from the players, but when you are down you are down and things just aren't going our way." They certainly didn't on Saturday and when Craig Weston was sent off for a second bookable offence their cause was made even more difficult as Pennar took control of the game and eased their way to the points on offer. Wayne Brunton netted twice for the Robins and Paul Lowe scored the other goal.

Division Three

Broad Haven 3 Lawrenny 1

Both teams are within touch of each other in division three. but the visitors started like a train. Mike Howe opened the scoring after just two minutes with the first concerted attack by Lawrenny. A long throw by Kim Harland was brought down by Mike Howe, who controlled the ball to find the bottom corner. After elation, the visitors suffered two body blows in quick succession with the loss of two key players. Defender Tom Lewis left the field with a badly cut leg and Kim Harland pulled a hamstring. Tom Alexander equalised for Broad Haven with a well-worked goal. In the second half, Sam Dyer put Broad Haven in front with a header from a long throw. The visitors pushed everyone up in search of the equaliser, but with five minutes of the match left, Spencer Le Petit hit a volley from the edge of the box to score and to put the result beyond doubt. Teenager Mike Jolly had a good game up front for Lawrenny.

Newport Lions 0 Manorbier United 4

Manorbier were on top throughout the game and attacked from the start. The Newport 'keeper kept his team in the game with some excellent saves. After Simon Bolton had hit the bar, James Hall gave the visitors a first half lead by scoring off his knee Toshack style. In the second half, Andrew Culshaw picked up a loose ball to increase the lead, which was extended by Josh Hawkes. The goal by Hawkes finished off an excellent move involving fullback Sam Reeves and midfielder Ben Hall, who was playing his first game for six weeks. It was fitting that Ben Hall scored the last goal of the match from the penalty spot. In a good team performance, striker Andrew Culshaw stood out in only his second appearance for the first team.

Haverfordwest CC 3 St. Florence 2

There's little to choose between the two teams in the league and there was little to choose between them on this display. St. Florence had wind advantage in the first half and built up a lead of two goals. Austyn John scored the first when he was on hand to tap the ball into the back of the net after a shot by Jamie Roberts had been parried. Brett Evans increased the lead with a shot from outside the box into the bottom corner. Shortly before the interval. Austyn John came close to scoring again for the visitors. In the second half, it was a different story as the Cricketers had the advantage of the wind. The Saints held firm for 30 minutes, but then the goals came, with Danny Potter, John Ryan and Tom Goring each scoring to give the Cricketers the points. For the visitors, there was a good performance by teenager Kurt Walsh who was one of an impressive back four who had to work harder when the visitors were reduced to ten players.

Reserve Division One

Goodwick United 2 Carew 3

Carew held on to the top spot with an excellent performance and have now won eight of their 10 matches to date. Ian Sefton opened the scoring for the visitors after he latched on to a great through ball by Neil 'Woolley' Morgan and Sefton then rounded the Goodwick 'keeper to score. In a copy-cat goal, Richard Bullock increased the lead before the interval. After 10 minutes of the second half, Carew were three-up after Sam Goodwin found the back of the net with a screamer from 25 yards. The visitors continued to create scoring opportunities, which were not taken, and with 15 minutes of the match remaining, Goodwick came back into the game with a bang. Rob Couzens reduced the deficit and then with six minutes of the match left scored again to set up an exciting finish. Carew managed to cling on to win, but Goodwick finished the stronger team. It was an excellent team effort by the Carew players, with Neil 'Woolley' Morgan having an excellent game.

Narberth 2 Camrose 1

Narberth Seconds did what their first team couldn't do the week before; they managed to beat a team from Camrose. Bluebirds supremo Nigel Thomas described the performance as 'outstanding' as they cruised to a 2-1 win. "It was an excellent performance; especially in the second half we deserved the win as we dominated the final 45 minutes." Kyle Quartermaine played one of his best games in a Narberth shirt and deserved to put them ahead in the first half. Gavin James scored the second and with more chances being created more goals were expected from the team. They didn't come, however, until the final five minutes of the game, but the goal was scored by the visitors, although it mattered little as Narberth were always in control and were good value for the win.

Kilgetty 2 Merlins Bridge 3

If only Kilgetty had managed to score a third, then it would have been so different. That was the verdict of Kilgetty manager Barry Ormond on his team's defeat. He scored to put them ahead and once Ben Hughes got the second they were in control. No matter how hard they tried, though, they just couldn't get the all-important third and in the second half the Wizards took control as they scored three goals through Jamie Jenkins, Daniel Wilks and Mike Parry without reply. Despite the defeat, Ormond was philosophical about his team's fortunes. "We were unlucky not to get something from it, but I guess they deserved the win more than us. If we had scored a third, then we probably would have snuck it. We went close, but we just didn't get close enough."

Reserve Division Two

Lawrenny 2 Hundleton 1

Lawrenny played particularly well in the first half and their passing was of the highest quality. As a result, Lawrenny started with two quick goals in the first 20 minutes. Steve Campbell scored the first. A good run by Andrew Cole junior, who was making a welcome return to play his first game of football of the season, ended in a pass by Cole to Jonathon Beff. Beff chipped the Hundleton 'keeper and the ball hit the crossbar to rebound into the path of Campbell, who scored. Campbell increased the lead himself when he chipped the 'keeper and this time the ball went into the back of the net from the crossbar. Hundleton reduced the lead after Lawrenny had scored an own goal. In a rare Hundleton attack, a cross caused confusion between defender Jonathon Cole and 'keeper Geraint Nicholas and Cole inadvertently gave the visitors the benefit of a goal. In the second half, Hundleton improved and were in the Lawrenny half for long periods of the game. Superb 'keeping by Geraint Nicholas kept Hundleton at bay and Lawrenny held on to come away with three points. Andrew Cole junior made a difference in his first game back. Although playing at the back, he made a number of impressive runs in attack. Paul Brooks also played well in midfield.

Manorbier United 2 Pembroke Boro 3

Manorbier played well against a strong Pembroke Boro team, but two goals by Darren Thomas and another by Tom Price gave the visitors the points. Adrian Atwell and Jamie Robinson were the Manorbier goal-scorers.

Saundersfoot Sports 3 Fishguard Sports 5

Saundersfoot are seven places behind Fishguard in the reserve division two table, but competed on equal terms for much of the game. However, a brace of goals for both Kevin Kinsella and Jamie Vaughan backed up by a goal from Anthony Evans made sure of a win for the visitors. Rhys Hunt and Paul Evans scored for the Saundersfoot team.

St. Clears 4 Tenby 0

It's proving to be a tough season already for Tenby and on this showing it's only going to get a lot worse. They were never really at the races as the Saints went marching on to grab all three points on offer. James Owen showed his class for the home side as he grabbed a brace, while there were goals for Dorian Davies and Steve Phillips in a comfortable display all-round.

Pendine 0 Haverfordwest CC 1

This was a very close, hard fought game played in difficult conditions, according to Seagulls manager Frank Roberts, but the cricket club deserved their success on the day. Pendine 'keeper Dan Hennessey enjoyed a busy afternoon and showed his class with some fine saves to restrict the visitors. It looked as though a draw was going to be the likely result until 10 minutes before the end when veteran striker Steve James popped up from nowhere to grab the winner. The Seagulls can take a lot of confidence from this display, though, and will be looking for a win when they entertain Fishguard Sports next week.
