Second Division Cup - First Round
Haverfordwest County 3 Pendine 3
Neither team was able to score during the two periods of extra time after each team had scored three times during the first 90 minutes. The Seagulls took the lead through a goal by Ali De Freitas who regained the lead for the visitors after Andrew Sergeant had equalised for Haverfordwest County. Early in the second half, Darren Jones levelled the scores again for County, who went into the lead for the first time when Andrew Sergeant picked up his second goal of the match. With 10 minutes of the match remaining, Pendine were awarded a penalty and Justin Blewitt held his nerve to score. Although both teams attempted to overcome the pitch conditions to play open football throughout the game, no more goals were scored. Both teams created chances but were unable to finish in a match where the result could have gone either way. It was a good team performance by Pendine with Justin Blewitt controlling the centre of midfield and Ali De Freitas moving up from the left side of midfield to score two crisp goals.
St. Clears 4 Clarbeston Road 0
St. Clears continued their revival of fortunes to pick up their sixth win in six matches by scoring four times in their home cup encounter with Clarbeston Road. In difficult playing conditions, the Saints found the back of the net twice in the first five minutes, but the goals were disallowed and the Saints also had another goal disallowed later in the game. A free-kick led to the first goal by the Saints which Owen Edwards scored with a header and Edwards extended the lead when he scored from close range after the goal was set-up by Marcus Leefe. Some individual flair by Sam Thomas led to the third goal. Thomas ran on to a through ball from Gareth Griffiths beat two defenders and then deceived the 'keeper by the near post to give the Saints the cushion of a three goals advantage at the interval. In the second half, it was more of the same with the Saints dominating possession. Frustratingly no more goals were scored until 10 minutes before the final whistle when the ball broke loose to Paul Edwards who made no mistake with a cracking shot. By the end of the game, the pitch resembled a bog, but the Saints rose above the conditions through an excellent team effort.
Division Three
Lawrenny 5 St. David's City 4
Lawrenny picked up their fourth win of the season in an exciting home match against St. David's City. Kim Harland gave Lawrenny an early lead with a curling free-kick after he had been brought down. Martin Bland equalised for the visitors, but Harland put Lawrenny in front again with a cheeky flick when he ran on to a cross from Ben Cole who had made a good run down the left. At this stage of the game it was nip-and-tuck so it came as no surprise when Luke Phillips levelled the scores for City with a header. However, Harland was not finished with proceedings yet and he added two more goals before the interval. For the goal which clinched his hat-trick, he outpaced the covering defence before shooting. Then Harland ran on to a long ball over the top before being chopped down in the box and he took the kick himself to score from the penalty spot. After five minutes of the second half, Nick Price reduced the deficit for the visitors and midway through the second half, Lawrenny regained their two goals advantage when Johnny Beff finished off a move from a free-kick initiated by Stuart Prosser and involving Steve Campbell. With 10 minutes of the match remaining, Nick Price picked up his second goal for the visitors to set-up an exciting finish. Although the visitors pressed strongly, Lawrenny held out until the final whistle. The quality of the finishing of Kim Harland was outstanding and young Tom Lewis had a promising debut at left back. Paul Edwards was also solid at the back and Johnny Beff a livewire up front.
St. Florence United 1 Pembroke United 4
St. Florence United found the league leaders Pembroke United too strong on the day and conceded four goals scored by Craig Manning, Liam Robson, Liam Stapleton and Lowe. The St. Florence team had a consolation goal through Paul Davies.
Reserve Division One
Herbrandston 1 Saundersfoot Sports 1
Because of the wet conditions it was decided to play the match at the top pitch in Herbrandston and the home team went into the interval with the lead after a strike by Edward Smith midway through the half. In the second half, the visitors got on top and created many chances, but frustratingly goals proved elusive. Eventually one came. The visitors decided to move Danny Caine up from defence as they looked for the equalising goal. The positional switch paid off and Caine finished with a shot from 15 yards into the left corner after an excellent build up. The versatile Caine had a top class game and the experienced Ian Morris looked very fit at the back.
Letterston 3 St. Clears 1
The players of both teams had to contend with a very wet pitch and conditions became worse the longer the game went on. The Saints took the lead after five minutes when Steve Aston was on hand to tap in from close range when a shot from Simon Bancroft rebounded. Letterston came back strongly and took advantage of a defensive error to equalise with a goal from Mike Williams. The home team increased the lead before the interval when a corner hit the bar and bounced back into play for Mike Williams to pick up his second goal. The Saints brought on some fresh legs in the second half, but the conditions prevented the visitors from creating some clear cut chances other than some speculative long shots. Mike Williams completed his hat-trick with a shot from just inside the box after 20 minutes of the second half and shortly afterwards the referee blew up for an early finish. The result will stand which means that St. Clears suffered their first defeat in the league for four months much to the disappointment of the players. Goalkeeper Jason Owen pulled off some good saves for the Saints and Anthony Howells was a steadying influence in defence.
Reserve Division Two
Manorbier United 2 Lawrenny 1
No goals were scored in the first half. Both teams created chances but were unable to convert opportunities to score into goals. Manorbier had the edge in the first half and took the lead in the second half when a cross from Paul Maytum from a quick free-kick was met by Ricky Thomas who found the back of the net. Manorbier extended the lead through Ricky Thomas with a fine individual effort. Lawrenny battled hard and were rewarded with a spectacular goal from Will Morris. After picking up the ball inside his own half, Morris attempted a long range effort which found the only firm patch on the pitch and bounced over the 'keeper's head. For Manorbier, Ricky Thomas played a key role on the left side of mid-field and Paul Oeppen caught the eye in defence. For Lawrenny, Alun Evans shored up the defence with some well-timed tackles and clearances.
