Senior Cup (First Round)
Templeton 4 St. David's City 1
Although St. David's provided the strongest opposition that Templeton have met so far this season, it was Templeton who booked a place in the next round. The first 25 minutes were fairly even until Wayne Scourfield gave Templeton the lead from the penalty spot. Stuart Diamond equalised for City when the Templeton defence failed to clear the ball, but Chris O'Connell on his Templeton debut met a cross from the left to slam the ball into the back of the net to nudge Templeton in front before the half-time whistle. In the second half, Templeton had wind advantage and made the most of the situation to extend the lead. Anthony Evans hit a rasping shot from the 18-yard line after Morgan Preece played the ball back and with 15 minutes remaining, Preece had the faintest of touches to score from an Andrew Davies free-kick. Morgan Preece once again had an excellent game for Templeton, Chris O'Connell and Wayne Scourfield were all action in midfield, while Andrew Davies, Guto Davies, Chris Frearson and Scott Pallas formed an effective back four.
Manorbier United 0 Pembroke United 4
United scored their four goals in the first half. Danny Nolan netted twice, backed up by strikes from Jon Hyde and Jason Kilby. Two of the goals were well taken finishes from good moves and the other two followed from defensive lapses by Manorbier. After the interval, Manorbier played a lot better. Several chances were created, but none was put away. However, there were some plus points for Manorbier, with good performances by James Nicholas in defence and Tom Christopher in goal.
Haverfordwest CC 5 Lawrenny 3
Lawrenny created a lot of chances in the early stages of this game, but were unable to score. Danny Potter gave the Cricketers the lead, but Stefan Jenkins equalised for the visitors before the interval. Lawrenny travelled without subs and when Andrew Cole Junior was injured after 10 minutes of the second half, were reduced to 10 men. The Cricketers struck twice with goals by Dai Davies and Nigel Jenkins, but Lawrenny bounced back to equalise again, after two penalties in quick succession by skipper Phil Cole. However, the Cricketers had the last word, with goals by Simon Williams and Mark Cross. For the visitors, Stefan Jenkins had an excellent game up front and Paul Edwards was solid in defence.
Division One
Carew 1 Narberth 2
Although Carew played well in the early stages, two goals by the Bluebirds in the first 15 minutes finished off the game as a contest. The first goal came from a superb move involving Paul Phillips, David Lee and Richard Nash who crossed from the left to Wayne Howells and Howells finished with some style in the corner of the net. Richard Nash scored the second, which was an opportunist effort, with a long curling shot into the top corner of the net after he had been put away by Marc Hughes. Carew fought strongly to get back into the game and for the remainder of the half it was end-to-end stuff. Sam Goodwin came close to scoring for Carew, but the visitors dug in to hold onto their lead. After 10 minutes of the second half, James Buckle clawed a goal back for Carew with a well-judged header following a cross by Haydn Shapcott from a free-kick on the left. The goal completed the scoring for the afternoon, although the teams continued to tussle and Narberth might have extended the lead, but a tremendous shot by Paul Phillips shaved the posts. For Carew, James Buckle stood out up front and Haydn Shapcott was excellent on the left side of the field. For the visitors, Richard Nash played well in midfield, Charlie Smith tackled strongly and 16-year-old Robbie Brooks gave the team some balance on the left side of midfield. The Bluebirds have now won three games on the trot, but face a tough contest tomorrow in their match with mid-table rivals Tenby.
Saundersfoot Sports 2 Monkton Swifts 6
Sports played very well in the first half and kept the strong Swifts team out for 30 minutes, before Mathew Price, in his last league game for the Monkton team, opened the scoring. Jamie Morgan equalised with a volley from a cross by Liam Culshaw after Monkton had been caught napping on the break. However, with five minutes of the first half remaining, Lee Gilpin put Swifts back in front. In the second half, Mathew Price, who will become the new manager of Welsh League side Newcastle Emlyn, completed a hat-trick, but James Caine got a goal back for Saundersfoot with a header from a rebound following a shot by Jamie Morgan. With just two goals separating the teams, Swifts clinched the points by bringing their tally to two following goals by Steve Davies and David Patterson. Saundersfoot's Jamie Morgan was a constant threat up front, Liam Culshaw worked hard on the left and Steve Ruff was industrious on the right side of midfield. After a disappointing start to the season, there is lots of room for improvement by Saundersfoot, but there were some encouraging signs in this match against Monkton.
St. Ishmaels 5 Kilgetty 1
Kilgetty started well against a brisk wind and were one goal up at half-time. The visitors caught Tish on the break and Grant James fed Mike Beynon, for the striker to shoot into the left corner from 30 yards. Although Tish came back, they were unable to score because of the tight-knit Kilgetty defence. It was a different story after the interval as Kilgetty 'did not come out'. Paul Palmer equalised early in the second half as Tish raised their game. Adam Davies put Tish in front, Stephen Harteveld extended the lead and Tish added two more, with Paul Palmer and Adam Davies picking up their second goals of the match. Kilgetty were without experienced players such as Bobby Bevan and Dean Rossiter and their experience was sorely missed on the day.
Tenby 1 Goodwick United 7
Mid-table Tenby conceded seven goals against Division One leaders Goodwick United and only found the back of the net once in reply. Division Two
Broad Haven 1 Pendine 7
The Seagulls had a shaky start and the result might have well been different had it not been for goalkeeper John Roberts pulling off two cracking saves early on. Young Mathew Court put the Seagulls in front and the lead was extended by Jack Morris. The two goals appeared to take the stuffing out of the Broad Haven team who crumpled, allowing Jack Morris and Mathew Court to each score again before the interval. The lead was extended in the second half when the Seagulls stole the ball from the kick-off and Simon Evans scored within seconds of the second half starting. Chris Oliver had a consolation goal for Broad Haven, before Justin Blewitt made it six and then Jack Morris completed his hat-trick and the goal-scoring by the visitors. Simon Evans led the line well up front and there were good midfield performances by Mathew Court and Jack Morris.
Fishguard Sports 3 St. Clears 2
There was little to choose between the two teams, but the win by Sports has taken them four places above the Saints in the league table. Paul Luke scored twice and Carl Lewis made it three for Sports. The Saints, who were reduced to 10 players during the match, had two goals in reply by Eddie Wiggins and Jonathan Pearson.
Division Three
St. Florence United 1 Angle 1
St. Florence were held to a draw at home to the visitors from Angle. Jeffrey Evans netted for the Saints and Philip Thompson was on target for the visitors.
Reserve Division One
Kilgetty 6 Camrose 3
Kilgetty started well and eventually controlled the game, although the scores were level at half-time. Shamsul Ali opened the scoring for Kilgetty with a left-footed volley, but Chris Owen equalised for Camrose from a free-kick. The ball was headed out, but Owen was on hand to toe-pocke the ball through the Kilgetty defence. Shamsul Ali regained the lead for Kilgetty with a right-footed shot over the head of the advancing Camrose 'keeper, but Jeff Harris equalised shortly before the interval. After 10 minutes of the second half, 16-year-old Nicky Cope dribbled through the defence after being put through by Anthony Bevan and beat the Camrose 'keeper in a one-on-one situation. After putting Kilgetty in front, Cope extended the lead when he chipped the 'keeper and then he completed his hat-trick when he nailed the ball to the roof of the net from 10 yards. Lee Carruthers reduced the deficit for Camrose, but Shamsul Ali completed his hat-trick when he drove the ball home from an acute angle. Nicky Cope provided a double-pronged striking partnership up front with his father Andrew, Shamsul Ali played well in midfield, along with Paul Mansbridge and Anthony Bevan, while Michael Smith was solid at centre half.
Narberth 3 Milford Athletic 0
Narberth maintained their winning record, but it was a rather scrappy game. The Bluebirds took the lead in the first half through an own goal after a header by Peter Phillips was put into the back of the net by a Milford defender. In the second half, Adi Jones extended the lead in a one-on-one with the 'keeper after being put through by Huw Vaughan. Athletic were reduced to 10 players when a Milford player picked up his second booking of the match. Narberth completed the scoring after Harry Allen was brought down and Peter Phillips scored from the penalty spot. Adi Jones had an excellent game up front and the experienced Adrian Howells controlled the centre of midfield.
Pennar Robins 1 Carew 2
Carew won their fourth consecutive game and again it was be the same scoreline of two goals to one, as it had been in their three previous games. The visitors dominated the match in the early stages and Keri Bradley put them in front. Following a period of pressure by the Robins, Darren Davies equalised and then in the closing stages of the first half, goalkeeper Ben Evans kept the visitors in the game with some excellent saves from close range shots. Keri Bradley got the winner for Carew in the second half in somewhat controversial circumstances when the Robins team stopped after appearing to think that a Carew player had been injured. At the time the Robins players stopped, Bradley was in a goal-scoring position and he placed the ball into the back of the net as none on the Carew side was in fact injured. Keri Bradley worked hard up front and Ben Evans pulled off some crucial saves in goal.
Hakin United 7 Tenby 2
Tenby were in the game until the interval as their inexperienced side held the Vikings to just two goals and managed to score one in reply, when Liam Robson rounded the 'keeper towards the end of the first half. In the second half, the Vikings scored twice in the first five minutes to kill off Tenby and then added three more goals. Andrew Charmley scored four goals, Adam Bayjoo two, with Nick Thomas getting the other goal. Liam Robson was on target again in the second half for Tenby, to net his second of the match. The experienced Hakin team beat the offside trap five times to score, so that the young Tenby players need to work harder on this tactic in training. Three young players, Perry Broadhurst in midfield, together with defenders Dan Escott and Hywel Bromby played their hearts out in the Tenby cause.
Monkton Swifts 12 Saundersfoot Sports 0
A depleted Sports team found the strong league leaders too much of a handful and the floodgates opened as a result. Ian Rome scored four goals for Swifts, Ross Peniket had a hat-trick, Dai Stanley scored twice and their goals were supplemented by strikes from Robin Stanley, Paul Lacey and Paul Blunsden.
Reserve Division Two
Letterston 12 Lawrenny 2
The new-look Lawrenny team took the lead and were two goals to one up during the first half before the avalanche came. Trailing by five goals to two at the interval, Lawrenny conceded seven further goals in the second half. Ian Jenkins scored from the penalty spot for Lawrenny and Alun Evans picked up the second goal for the visitors after good work by Martin Lewis. For Letterston, both Mike Williams and Paul Hayman had hat-tricks, John Williams and Brian Mathias picked up two goals each, backed up by goals from Liam Dooling and Geraint Mathias. For various reasons the two Lawrenny teams are without 10 players at present, but there were some signs of encouragement in this match, particularly with the efforts of Ben Cole and Willie Morris at the back.
St. Clears 1 Neyland 2
The Saints were below par in the first half, but created three good chances which were not snapped up. The visitors were hungrier for success and scored two gaols through Paul Davies and Nathan Warlow. In the second half, Steve Astin clawed one goal back for the Saints in a one-on-one with the 'keeper, after being put into space by Alan Fitzpatrick. Colin Reynolds and Steve Phillips came close to scoring for St. Clears, who played much better in the second half, but the Saints were unable to equalise. Steve Phillips played well at the back, as did Gareth Griffiths, who was switched from his normal position in midfield, while Ian Davies was also prominent on the left of midfield.
Milford United 4 Manorbier United 0
Manorbier battled well in the first half with five players used in midfield. Neither side was able to score before half-time. In the second half, Milford United made the decisive breakthrough and scored four times in total without conceding a goal in reply. Andrew Davies, Matthew Charnley and Jason Warlow scored for United, who also picked up a fourth goal from an own goal. For Manorbier, there were good performances from Paul Oeppen in midfield, John Grover in defence and James Llewellyn in goal.
Pendine 2 Johnston 4
Mark Sture gave the visitors an early lead with a goal conjured out of broken play, but Stephen Jones equalised for the Seagulls with 20 minutes of the first half remaining. At the start of the second half, Pendine lost possession from the kick-off and Keith Barrow regained the lead for Johnston. The Seagulls made a few team changes and the substitutions paid off when Wayne Evans levelled the scores with a screamer from the narrowest of angles. The Seagulls ruled the roost for the next 20 minutes, but squandered some scoring opportunities. In the last 10 minutes, the visitors ran amok. Paul John pulled off two terrific saves to keep Pendine in the game, but two goals in quick succession by Jason Griffiths gave Johnston the points. For Pendine, Paul John was outstanding in goal despite conceding four goals, Wayne Evans effective in two positions on the left, with Rob Pearce and Mark Smalley solid in defence.
