DIVISION ONE

Carew 3 Narberth 2

Although Carew had the benefit of the first half wind, the visitors took the lead following two goals by striker David Gillard.

The first goal was the type that most strikers can only dream of as Gillard brought down the ball from a free-kick by Wayne Howells. Somehow he managed to control the ball with his heel in the swirling wind and then flicked it up to volley it into the back of the net from 25 yards.

Speaking after the match, he claimed he had picked up the trick from watching a Ryan Giggs video in the morning before the match. By comparison, his second goal was more of a scrambled day to day effort.

The second half was a different story. After failing to create chances before the interval, Carew came out in more determined fashion in the second half and clearly targeted David Gillard to keep the dangerous striker tucked up.

In contrast, the Bluebirds failed to keep it going and Carew took advantage of a defensive error after 15 minutes when Richard Bullock scored after receiving a cross from James Buckle.

Buckle was to prove the Carew hero as, with 10 minutes of the match remaining, he equalised from a tight angle when the ball went in off the post and then he had a last-gasp winner. This time he received a cross from Ian Sefton and somehow managed to squeeze the ball home with little room to manoeuvre.

For Narberth, David Gillard took his goals well and for Carew there were some big performances in midfield from Nick Scourfield, Paul Bullock and Neil Morgan.

Speaking after the match, Narberth manager Barry Waters was clearly disappointed with the result and the way in which Narberth faded in the second half and said: "We must pick ourselves up for the visit to Merlins Bridge next Saturday."

Solva 3

Saundersfoot Sports 3

This was one of those games when as soon as one side scored the other side replied, especially during the second half.

Sports had the benefit of the wind in the first half and Steve Davies together with Jason Bridges both came close to scoring before the visitors took the lead.

Phil Jones put Saundersfoot in front after 30 minutes when he picked up the ball in a crowded goalmouth from a corner.

In the second half, Saundersfoot were playing with a strong wind in their faces. Solva soon equalised through Ben Jones after a move down the right, but Steve Davies put the visitors back in front when he nipped in to use his pace to go around a defender and then beat the 'keeper in a one-to-one situation.

No sooner had Davies scored than Martin Bland equalised for Solva.

Once again Steve Davies used his pace to edge the visitors ahead, but with five minutes remaining, Saundersfoot conceded a corner when attempting to play a high ball in the air.

The corner proved to be decisive as Martin Bland equalised from a short range.

For the visitors, Steve Davies and Jason Bridges posed problems for the Solva defenders throughout the afternoon.

Goodwick United 3

Tenby's resurgence continued with a hard earned win against Goodwick United in a very exciting game.

Manager Gavin Scotcher was delighted with the result and the way in which his team followed his instructions to 'go out and battle hard'.

Young striker Jack Christopher put Tenby in front with a header to the back post following a cross by Scott McLaughlin.

Daniel Williams equalised for Goodwick, but within minutes Scott McLaughlin regained the lead for Tenby with a half volley after picking up a cross from David Day.

In the second half, David Day ran on to a ball over the top and lobbed the 'keeper with a nice finish to increase the lead, but Adam Raymond clawed a goal back for the visitors.

When Chris O'Sullivan equalised for Goodwick, there was everything to play for, but Tenby had the winner in rather bizarre fashion.

One of the Goodwick defenders made a back pass and the ball rolled under the keeper's foot to give Tenby the points.

It was a good team effort for Tenby, with everyone doing their job. Tenby took their chances, played with confidence and are in good heart for tomorrow's big match at home to Hakin United.

DIVISION TWO CUP (QUARTER FINALS)

Johnston 2 Kilgetty 0

There was no way back for Kilgetty after Johnston had a lead of two goals at the interval.

The visitors started brightly, with Bobby Bevan hitting the bar in the first minute.

Kilgetty were in the game for the first 20 minutes, but appeared to lose some heart when Adrian Moore put Johnston in front with a deflection from a free-kick. Ten minutes before the interval Jim Payne extended the lead for Johnston.

Although Kilgetty picked themselves up and were in determined mood in the second half, they could not break through and found the Johnston 'keeper in top form.

For the visitors, sweeper Simon Wood played well and Bobby Bevan also had a solid game at the back.

Neyland 8 Pendine 2

The Seagulls were washed away at Neyland after the home team scored four goals in each half.

Pendine did have the consolation of scoring twice in the second half. Justin Blewitt found the back of the net with a penalty and Gary Owen reduced the deficit to four goals after Neyland had scored twice early on in the second half.

However, Neyland scored a further two goals to bring their match total to eight.

Jason Phillips had a hat-trick, backed up by two goals from Micky Beavis. Other goals were scored by Paul Davies, Wayne Parry and Craig Power.

DIVISION TWO

Pembroke Boro 3 Manorbier United 3

Boro were on top in the first half, but Manorbier took the lead with a goal by Paul Maytum after just two minutes and then Maytum extended the lead somewhat against the run of play. Adam Thorne, who was transferred to Manorbier from Kilgetty, slipped the ball to Ben Hall and Maytum ran on to it to finish in clinical fashion.

Stephen Mackeen reduced the deficit for Boro before half-time.

At the start of the second half, Paul Maytum completed a fine hat-trick with a well-worked move, with Ben Hall being involved once again.

At this stage, Manorbier appeared to be coasting towards victory and seemed to have the game in the bag when Boro had a player sent-off.

However, Darren Thomas put Boro back into the game with a header from a free-kick and a minute later Neil Lewis scored with another header to equalise.

Manorbier had further chances to score, but the match ended in a draw.

Paul Maytum took his chances well for Manorbier, while Rob Vincent and Ben Hall both had prominent games in midfield.

St. Clears 2 Clarbeston Road 0

St. Clears pulled out all of the stops to achieve a very good win against the visitors who are placed third in Division Two.

Paul Edwards gave the Saints the lead in the first half with a shot from the edge of the box, five minutes after the same player had a goal disallowed.

Ten minutes before the final whistle, Sam Thomas made the game safe for the Saints when he poached the ball off the Clarbie 'keeper to score.

It was a committed all round performance by the St. Clears team who seem to play well against the top teams in Division Two, but have lacked consistency against teams in the bottom half of the table.

Milford United 2 Lawrenny 0

Lawrenny continue to prop up the Division Two table after going down by just one goal in their away match at Milford United.

It was a good team effort by the Lawrenny players and in many ways a draw would have been a fair result.

For most of the game, play was fairly even and neither side scored, although Phil Cole came close to giving Lawrenny the lead after 20 minutes.

The second half followed a similar pattern and while Lawrenny created goal-scoring opportunities, none was taken.

A defensive misunderstanding after 25 minutes allowed Neil Mathias to give United the lead and they held on to that slender lead until the final whistle, despite a determined effort by the visitors.

DIVISION THREE

St. Florence 3 Templeton 2

Templeton took the lead after 25 minutes with a goal by the irrepressible Morgan Preece who finished a move from inside the box which had started with some quality play inside the Templeton half.

However, at the other end of the field, Mathew Jones scored for the Saints to level matters before the break.

At the start of the second half, Templeton played well and Morgan Preece extended the lead. Templeton did create other scoring opportunities, with Preece almost pulling off a hat-trick and Jamie Bradfield also getting close to a goal.

However, with five minutes of the match remaining, Phil Evans levelled the scores with a shot when he picked up a corner kick and Mathew Jones picked up his second goal of the match from a typical scramble to keep the Saints in touch with the Division Three leaders.

For Templeton, Morgan Preece looked lively up front, Anthony Evans had a good game in midfield and there were also sound performances at the back from Andrew Davies and Tristram Lewis.

RESERVE CUP (QUARTER FINAL)

Monkton Swifts 10 Carew 0

The Swifts went into the interval two goals up, both scored by Barry Dilworth.

The first goal came from a good move out of defence and Dilworth met an excellent cross with a well-judged header. The star striker then increased the lead when he took advantage of a defensive misunderstanding.

Carew had a couple of chances in the first half, with Seb Palin and Ceri Bradley almost getting Carew back into the game.

However, two early goals at the start of the second half from Daniel Scourfield and Barry Dilworth, respectively, knocked the stuffing out of Carew.

As the game progressed, the Carew defenders were unable to match the pace of the Swifts, who not only lived up to their name, but also added six goals to the total.

Barry Dilworth picked up his second hat-trick of the match, Daniel Scourfield picked up his second goal and there were other goals by Leroy Thomas and Jamie Callan.

Camrose 2

Narberth 5

Striker Peter Phillips celebrated his return to the side after injury by putting the Bluebirds in front in the first half after being fed by Richard Nash.

Mike Preddy equalised for Camrose, but a far-post header by Nigel Davies from a Huw Vaughan cross regained the lead for the Bluebirds, before Marco Siso levelled the scores again before half-time.

In the second half, the visitors took control. Peter Phillips picked up his second goal after good work by Nigel Thomas, following which he was well positioned to complete a hat-trick when he was fouled after rounding the 'keeper inside the box. A penalty was awarded and Phillips scored.

The fifth goal came from a Richard Nash free-kick from 25 yards.

It was a good team performance by the Bluebirds, with Richard Nash performing well in midfield and Peter Phillips up front, while the long throw-ins of Ian Hughes caused some disarray amongst the Camrose defenders.

RESERVE DIVISION ONE

Kilgetty 1

St. Ishmaels 2

For the first 20 minutes of the game, Kilgetty outplayed the visitors and took the lead through a goal by Jamie Morgan.

In the second half, Tish raised their game and Andrew Palmer equalised with a shot from 30 yards.

After Anthony Bevan and Tim Scale came close to regaining the lead for Kilgetty, Lyndon Clark followed up an attempted clearance from a cross to put Tish in front.

Tony Hill almost pulled off some last minute heroics for Kilgetty in the closing stages of the match, but the Tish 'keeper pulled off some terrific saves.

Upon reflection, Kilgetty deserved to share the points in this match.

Unfortunately, Kilgetty will be without Duane Rossiter for a few weeks after the player suffered a hairline fracture to his ankle.

Dave Marklew was the pick of the Kilgetty defenders.

RESERVE DIVISION TWO

Lawrenny 1

Pendine 0

In a Reserve Division Two basement battle, Lawrenny worked hard to pick up a win over the visitors from Pendine, courtesy of a goal by Jonathan Beff.
