Members of Pembroke and District, Tenby, Haverfordwest and Whitland Male Choirs travelled to Neath on Sunday for the penultimate rehearsal before the Royal Albert Hall 2007, with conductor Alwyn Humphreys at the rostrum. Alwyn is so well known in Welsh choral circles that it hardly seems necessary to mention his extensive musical experiences. He was, of course, the conductor of the world famous Morriston Orpheus Choir for many years, but is now a freelance on the Welsh and international scene. He has recently returned from China after conducting a joint international group made up of choirs from Wales, England, Northern Ireland and Germany. Four concerts were undertaken in, Shanghai, Beijing, X'ing and Hong Kong. The Albert Hall Massed Voices Concert on March 17, 2007, always massively supported, is believed to have very few tickets left for sale at this time. Mr. Humphreys is known to drive his choirs very hard in rehearsal and thus it was Sunday. Two-and- a-half-hours of very intense work was more than enough for the assemblage and they left with obvious relief, but with absolute certainty of what was expected of them come March. A final practice in February will finalise the 20-odd pieces to be performed. An honour bestowed on P&DMVC is the person of Phil Lloyd, chosen as presenter of the Albert Hall event. A task well within his compass.
