A project brought about by the closure of Llanteg Village Hall because of the Covid restrictions has now resulted in a flurry of literary activity.
The Village Hall Association realised that even when restrictions would be lifted, the normally sociable residents may be more cautious in meeting up, so pushed forward with plans to establish a lounge in an underused room. This would enable smaller numbers to meet comfortably but in a socially distanced way.
As the project progressed, with support from the Cooperative Community Funds and Milford Haven Port Authority as well as local donations, the realisation that during lockdown, residents could not visit libraries or charity shops for books, being then reliant on online purchases became apparent.
The project then evolved – even as restrictions were eased – to the formation of a Community Library and also the potential for a book swap facility, a Little Library. In time for World Book Day on March 3, both aspects were realised.
A telephone box was donated by Cllr. and Mrs. A. Baron at Llanteglos which was then fitted out by local resident Jimmy Taylor. The Little Library was finished with a custom decal from local company Signspeed just in time for World Book Day.

The Community Library then opened its doors at Llanteg Hall on Wednesday, March 2, again with books donated by local residents. Books of all genres are on the shelves, from political biographies to books for toddlers, romantic fiction to gardening manuals.
The Community Library is manned by volunteers and currently is open for three sessions per week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
