On Sunday, Bethel Congregational Chapel held its annual anniversary services, with Rev. Aled Gwyn MA, of Cardiff, the guest preacher. The morning service, which was in Welsh, was very well supported, with members of surrounding chapels attending. In the afternoon, when the service was conducted in English, in addition to Bethel members, a number of people attended from as far afield as Templeton and Carmarthen. It was a most successful and enjoyable day, with perfect weather. This was followed by a memorial service in the Village Hall in memory of Rev. David Hammon, the vicar of the parish, who passed away the previous week. Officiating were the Rev. Huw George, of Ffynnon, and Rev. Guto Llewellyn, with contributions from the large number of villagers who attended to pay their respects to Rev. David Hammon, who, although only serving the villages for four years, had gained the respect of everyone. Grateful thanks go to the Rev. Huw George for organising the service, Mrs. Julie Young for playing the piano, and the members for providing the tea afterwards.
