TENBY'S got some of the best stretches of sand you'll find anywhere. It's what the bucket and spade brigade comes for and the beach provides lots of summer employment.
HTV's 'Fun in the Sun' on Thursday, January 24, at 7.30 pm, spends half-an-hour on the beach at Tenby. The first job every morning is to get the beach clean, picking up yesterday's bottles and cans. You might also bump into the man from the Environment Agency, checking the water quality to make sure that the North Beach gets its Blue Flag status.
Then there's Deckchair Wil setting up his chairs, parasols and sun lounges, under a tattered Welsh flag, and the trampoline boys have to undo all the mischief done to their springs overnight.
Little Alex and his large family are down from Swansea for the day. In time-honoured tradition, the moment they settle on the sand out come the pasties and the sandwiches. Looking after their safety on the beach are Benitta and her team of lifeguards. You never know what happens on the beach, a heart attack or nasty cut when your body-board hits a submerged rock.
A couple who are definitely having safety problems are Evie and Anthony from the Harbour Stores. They normally run a very popular parascending operation, lifting people high above the shoreline in a boat-pulled parachute. But this year they haven't been able to get the insurance and so they're stuck in the shop selling wet-suits. Perhaps one last 'phone call will give them the go-ahead.
And at the end of the day, as the trippers pack up and go home, the locals reclaim the beaches, walking their dogs and savouring the evening sunshine.
'Fun in the Sun is a Green Bay production for HTV. The director is Nia Dryhurst and the producers are Phil George and John Geraint.
