Tenby's volunteer lifeboat crew were alerted at 1.50 am on Monday morning by Milford Haven Coastguard after they received a request for assistance from a 15-metre 140-tonne fishing vessel which had lost steering.

The all-weather Tamar class lifeboat Haydn Miller immediately launched and proceeded to a position five miles south of St. Govans Head.

After assessing the situation and taking into account the poor weather and tidal conditions, it was decided to tow the vessel to its home port of Ilfracombe some 36 miles to the south-east.

This was achieved with assistance from the Ilfracombe Mersey class all-weather lifeboat which met up with Tenby lifeboat halfway.

The tow was passed to the Ilfracombe vessel at approximately 7 am, while Tenby lifeboat headed back to station, arriving at 7.40 am.
