As Christmas approached, it appeared that the local appeal in aid of Tenby's new lifeboat station might be going through a quiet period. Then, in one week, three cheques were received. The first was a wonderful donation of £75 from Templeton School. The money had been raised at the Harvest Thanksgiving Service, held in the local United Reformed Church. The next supporters were Jeremy Lewis (aged 14) and his brother Toby (aged 11), from Laugharne. Their family puts spare loose change into a gallon whisky bottle and annually gives the contents to a good cause. The boys decided that this year the recipient should be the Tenby Lifeboat Station Appeal and, when they counted the cash, it amounted to an amazing £66. The third sum was a very generous £250 from the South Wales Male Choir, Côr Meibion De Cymru, in conjunction with Texaco Ltd. (Pembroke) - part of the proceeds from the oil company's wonderful 40th anniversary charity programme in May and June. The total so far raised for the appeal is nearing £15,000, with sights set on reaching the £20,000 target by spring 2005. A number of individuals who plan to brave the sea in the Tenby Boxing Day Swim have asked if their sponsorship money could be given to the appeal and the answer is that it will be most welcome, but it is important that they write 'Tenby Lifeboat Station Appeal' as their nominated charity on the relevant section of the form. Appeal secretary Jennie McIntosh (07966 552445) will be delighted to receive their money and send them certificates of appreciation. With the lifeboat station becoming a very noticeable landmark beyond the harbour, it is most satisfying to think that the efforts of local groups and individuals, together with more distant friends of the town, have had a substantial hand in helping to provide it. Any projects or donations to assist in raising the final £5,000 would be warmly welcomed.
