Tenby's all-weather lifeboat, the Haydn Miller, launched at 7.44 pm on Saturday following a report to the coastguard that a family had left Saundersfoot earlier in the day, but had not returned and their trailer was now underwater.
As the lifeboat was rounding Monkstone Point, the crew spotted a sailing boat heading towards Saundersfoot.
After enquiring with the occupants, it turned out that they were the family that had been reported as having not returned.
They were in no danger and were on their way back to Saundersfoot.
The lifeboat escorted them and stood by as they moored their vessel and got safely ashore where they were met by Tenby coastguard.
The lifeboat then returned to station.
