PLANED (Pembrokeshire Local Action Group for Enterprise and Development) recently launched a new award at Narberth CP School in recognition of retired Co-ordinator, Joan Asby's life-time commitment to the communities of Pembrokeshire.
The Joan Asby, OBE, Achiever of the Year Award was presented to Rhian Cockwell by PLANED's chair, Helen Scourfield, on Joan's behalf as, due to work commitments with the Welsh Government, she was unable to attend.
Pupils in their final year at the school were tasked with writing an essay, not only about their own personal achievements, but also to provide an explanation of 'community' and what it means to them.
"These children are our future," commented Helen. "It is important for us to not only recognise the talents of young people, but their views need to be heard too. PLANED will use this feedback when considering how the organisation engages with young people."
Due to the high standard of entries, judged by PLANED board members, it was agreed that two runners-up, Sally Lewis and William Brandrick, should be selected.
