A list of sites in Tenby included in the Local Development Plan (LDP) urgently need reviewing, a local councillor stressed this week.
Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Mike Evans claimed that policies and five site allocations included in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's LDP needed to change and be reviewed.
"For Tenby to grow, we need to develop and need more homes," he said, stating that two of the sites included on the LDP list councillors would never like to see developed as it would take away car parking facilities, while "Bryn Hir has been sat on for 20 years."
"There should be a use it or lose it policy, if it's not developed, then take it out of the plan, as whilst these sites are still included, PCNPA are allowed to point at these places. If there's no intention to develop these sites, then whilst they are still included in the LDP, it is hindering development for homes and the catchment area for our schools.
"There are falling roll numbers in schools, as local parents are buying homes out of Tenby, which will lead to a downward cycle. It's just not good enough," commented Clr. Evans.
Clr. Lawrence Blackhall agreed and said that the issue desperately needed looking at.
"If you set a plan, and get halfway through and see that none of it is being activated, then it's time to rip it up and start again," he said.
"When it comes to a question of affordable housing, the LDP targets percentages, when really it's the number of units that needs to be considered," added Clr. Blackhall.
"The current sites included in the LDP are there just to tick boxes. They have no economic or social benefit to Tenby," continued Clr. Evans, who requested that the town clerk brings back a list of sites in Tenby included in the LDP to the next meeting of the town council, for the matter to be discussed further.
