Last Wednesday, a successful Autumn Lunch was held at the Lawrenny Arms, which is ideally situated on the Carew River, offering stunning views along the wide expanse.
The Lawrenny Arms is also known as 'The Doghouse' by the locals (now there lies a story or two as to how it acquired this name, and having listened to them, there still seems no certainty as to how it came about, so if anyone can offer any enlightenment on the subject......!)
The landlord and landlady Steve and Theresa, working in partnership with Carew and Cresswell Quay local branch for Cancer Research, provided a delicious two-course lunch, with coffee and mints to follow. Everyone said how much they enjoyed it and were full of praise for the venue, the food and the hard-working staff.
A raffle was held, with all prizes being kindly donated. The first prize, a large potted chrysanthemum, was won by Dez Williams, Theresa, the landlady, won a bottle of Chablis, Brian Jaques had a tin of Celebrations, a mystery prize went to Pat Gibby, Eileen Philips was the recipient of some shortbread biscuits, Joan Scourfield won a bottle of Lambrini, but asked for it to be redrawn and Malcolm Richards claimed the prize. Finally, Sheila Cote had a toilet bag.
When the money was counted up it came to £630.80 which was made up from the ticket sales for the lunch, the raffle money, and some very generous donations, including one from Steve and Theresa, who had already been more than kind and to whom nothing seems too much trouble, so our thanks to them and to the 56 people who enjoyed lunch whilst supporting this charity.
