NOW in its fifth year, Pembrokeshire-based Pint-sized Plays has grown to become a premier international competition for short plays. The winning plays from the competition, which last year drew more than 200 entries from as far afield as the USA and Australia, are performed in pubs throughout Pembrokeshire starting Tenby Festival Week.
The winning plays and runners up are then performed in a theatre at a Script Slam, where the audience are able to vote for the winning script - and the winner gets to walk away with the coveted 'Pint-Pot' award - with a 'Half-Pint' award for the runner-up! On top of which, selected plays will be recorded and broadcast as radio plays on an internet radio station and automatically considered for production at the Brighton Fringe festival.
Pint-sized Plays organiser, Derek Webb, said: "When we started the competition, we had no idea that it would be so successful. Everyone who is involved seems to enjoy it enormously - from the writers, to the actors and directors and, of course, all those people who watch the plays for free in pubs!"
The closing date is May 31, 2012, and Pint-sized Plays are now able to accept all scripts as uploaded word or pdf files on the website: pintsizedplays.org.uk. Each play lasts between five and 10 minutes, with two or three characters. It can be funny, it can be dramatic, it can be poignant... if it can be performed in a pub, it could be one of the winners.
