Llanharan 20 pts. Narberth 19

Second half defensive blunders allowed the Dairymen to get back into the game and to snatch a last gasp win with the last kick of the match when Llanharan scrum-half Chris Williams was on target converting a second injury time try.

Commenting after the match, head coach Sean Gale said: "We played quite well in the first half, scored nice tries and outside-half Aled Davies dictated matters nicely. We came out in the second half with the benefit of the wind, but unfortunately we started missing too many tackles, Llanharan were getting over the gain line and there was not a lot we could do about it then.

"We let them come back into the game. At 19-8 when we had the game won, they scored two late tries which was totally unacceptable.

"Our defence was really poor in the second half and was the main reason why we lost.

"Llanharan never gave up, but with a 19-8 scoreline with six minutes left, you should be winning the game.

"It was particularly disappointing that Llanharan won in the last minute of the game.

"Our contact area was poor and Llanharan dogged it out and deserved to win right at the end.

"We have got to learn to win matches and improve our tackling.

"On an individual front, Aled Davies looked like he was getting back to his best form, centre Lee Glanville had a good all round game and the scrimmaging was excellent."

The first half had started brightly for the visitors, although Llanharan tried to make an immediate impact on the game.

The challenge by the Dairymen was resisted and the Otters started a number of attacking movements once the pack had settled down and had begun to take control.

Nevertheless, the first score of the match did not happen until the 33rd minute, two minutes after Narberth captain and prop Justin Hughes had been held up on the line following a break by winger Mark Heywood.

Two minutes later, Heywood went over the line for an excellent try following a movement from a scrum and outside-half Aled Davies added the points for the conversion.

Shortly before the interval, the Narberth lead was extended when prop Tom Slater scored his first try for the Narberth team when he crashed over the line following an excellent combined move between the pack and the backs. Unfortunately, Aled Davies was unable to add the extras.

The travelling band of Narberth supporters were in good heart at the interval and expecting more of the same in the second half.

Unfortunately, the Dairymen had different ideas and the visitors went off the boil.

Ten minutes into the second half, Llanharan flanker Matthew Strong finished off a move with an unconverted try as the conversion attempt by Chris Williams hit the posts.

Williams was on target five minutes later to narrow the gap between the teams to four points when he converted a short range penalty kick.

Llanharan continued to press forward, but somewhat against the run of play, the Otters were awarded a penalty try following a scrum infringement by Llanharan and Aled Davies added the points for the conversion on 37 minutes.

With five minutes of the match remaining, Narberth were confident of meeting Llandovery in the second round and there may have been a loss of concentration.

Whatever the reason, Llanharan snatched two late tries, the first by prop James Greenfield, which went unconverted, and the second was a breath-taking move finished off in style by Cardiff Academy fullback, 18-year-old Harley Thompson, who outwitted the Narberth defenders with his electric running up the right touchline. He crossed for a try in the corner.

Everything depended on the last kick of the match and Chris Williams made sure of a Llanharan win when he added the points for the conversion with a superb kick from the touchline.
