A landlady from Pembrokeshire is hoping to lift the winter gloom by illuminating her pub with thousands of Christmas lights to raise money for Leukaemia Research.
Debbie Hart, co-owner of the Snooty Fox Inn at Martletwy, came up with the 'bright' idea when her father Thomas Orme Shone (79) was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndromes, a collection of diseases which affect the bone marrow's ability to produce healthy blood cells.
These blood cells are often destroyed before they leave the marrow, resulting in a shortage of white and red blood cells and platelets in the body. This can transform into mild forms of anaemia, and patients with MDS have a risk of the disease progressing to acute myelogenous leukaemia.
Father Christmas, reindeers and snowmen are just a few of the dazzling decorations that will adorn the property, located on the A4075.
Entrance to the 'must see' display is free, but donations for the charitable cause will be gratefully received.
Debbie said: "A gentleman in Kilgetty (Peter Thomas) has been running a similar charity display for years, but has decided not to do it anymore, so we thought we would try to take it on ourselves this year and use it to raise funds for charity. We started to put up the lights a few weeks ago and still have loads to do, but fingers crossed we'll be ready for the start of December!
"Anyone interested in seeing the display can come along and have a look. We will locate a few collection boxes around the display so that if people wish, they can make kind donations."
Although she has never produced a display before, Debbie has been given a helping hand by professional festive lighting specialists MK Illumination, who have donated a range of decorative motifs for the display.
Debbie is hoping to decorate every part of the Snooty Fox to produce a magical winter wonderland and plans to transform the former indoor equestrian area into a walk-through display. This will comprise of different Christmas scenes and a musical lighting show, for which Debbie has sourced specialist equipment from the USA.
Debbie says there will be thousands of bulbs inside the indoor arena, but all are low voltage to keep the electricity bill down.
The big switch on for the display is to take place at 6pm on December 1. Until then, Debbie and her friends will be reaching for the ladder daily to attach thousands of colourful lights to every part of the pub.
