A £2,000 WINDFALL came just in time for well known local councillor, Dillwyn Davies. His car caught fire on Merlins Hill last week and then his boiler packed up, and for a third thing, his washing machine broke down!
But Lady Luck was smiling this week when he won the weekly prize from the Pembrokeshire Lottery with number 1,104.
A pillar of the community being also church secretary for Monkton Priory, a member of the management board of PLANED as well as serving on many committees in Pembroke, Dillwyn has been an entrant into the lottery scheme since its inception in November 1993.
Another big fan of the Pembrokeshire Lottery scheme to help new and expanding businesses in the county is Suzanne Jones. Not only was the family business of Laundry and Laundrette Services assisted by the scheme, when they expanded into larger premises in Kilgetty, but on October 9, Suzanne won £2,000 with her number 30822.
Suzanne, who lives in Saundersfoot with husband Derek, does not have much free time, but when she does she enjoys walking her dogs. Working so hard, she has decided, however, to blow her winnings on a super shopping spree!
The assistance given from the proceeds of the Pembrokeshire Lottery to aid job creation in the county continues at a phenomenal rate and to all sectors.
Vanessa Jenkins, of Crymych, took the opportunity when she lost her job at the Call Centre earlier this year to fulfil an ambition to work for herself. With assistance not only from Investing In Pembrokeshire Society Ltd. (who run the Pembrokeshire Lottery), but also the Prince's Trust, Vanessa will shortly be opening Caffi Ness Cafe in Newport Road, Crymych, which will also have internet facilities.
Not only creating jobs, but providing a much needed service to the Pembrokeshire Farming Community, the Pembrokeshire Meat Company Ltd. have almost completed the building of the abbatoir at Withybush. Although a large project, Investing In Pembrokeshire Society Ltd. have assisted where possible in this project which should benefit the county's economy greatly.
Another traditional Pembrokeshire industry has also been assisted recently. Andrew and Paula Jenkins from Tenby bought a boat to fish out of Milford Haven, but needed new, stronger lobster pots. As part of an overall package devised for them by Jay Griffiths Consulting, they applied to Investing In Pembrokeshire Society Ltd. for assistance and were granted an interest free loan.
Brian Taylor saw a gap in the local market and as a result has now set up Taylor's Building Supplies on the Thornton Industrial Estate, again with assistance from Investing In Pembrokeshire Society Ltd.
Well known locally in the trade, Brian and his wife, Elizabeth, now employ three people supplying general builders as well as home owners with a wide variety of goods.
