Whitland ladies rugby team raised funds for British Heart Foundation Cymru’s lifesaving research by holding a ladies day which raised £250 to help BHF fight for every heartbeat. They created a naked calendar which raised £1,000 in sales.

Suzanne Davies, ladies team manager, chose BHF Cymru as she suffered a heart condition and wanted to say thank you to the charity that helped save her life.

Suzanne said: “I had a quadruple bypass in Morriston Hospital seven years ago and I would like to say thank you to the BHF as I’m living a full and active life. We have also designed a ladies rugby team ‘calendar girls’ calendar which was on sale at the end of November sold extremely well and we were delighted to raise £1,000 for BHF Cymru.”

Each day in Wales, 25 people lose their lives to cardiovascular disease which can devastate those they leave behind. Thanks to people like Suzanne and the ladies in the Whitland rugby team, BHF Cymru is funding pioneering research, central to discovering vital treatments for people living with these conditions.

Jayne Lewis, BHF fundraising manager for South West Wales, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Suzanne and the ladies rugby team for all their help and support in raising funds for BHF Cymru. Too many lives are lost in Wales each year, and we’re determined to do everything we can to protect more families from this devastation.

“Around 375,000 people across Wales this month are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease. Each year, these devastating conditions claim the lives of more than 750 people per month in Wales alone and thanks to the local groups and organisations in the area we’ll be able to fund even more research into these conditions.”
