Sir,

Recently my wife and I were in Tenby on holiday and were fortunate to have very good weather which enabled us to enjoy the beauty of both sea and countryside.

On the evening of Wednesday, June 16, we attended St. Mary's Church to listen to a concert given by Tenby Male Choir and were treated to some wonderful singing from a fine choir.

Regrettably, at the end of the evening when the time came to sing the English and Welsh National Anthems, a gentleman in front of us chose to remain seated for God Save The Queen, but promptly rose to his feet for the Welsh Anthem. Whilst we did not know the words of the host anthem, we still remained standing out of respect for the Welsh nation.

There were a number of visitors in the audience from England who also noticed the gentleman's protest. I am a firm believer in national identity, but when you consider that Tenby is a tourist destination and very much reliant on visitors to sustain its economy, the action witnessed did nothing to promote a welcoming atmosphere.

Fortunately the incident has not put us off visiting your town again or for that matter any other part of the Principality, but a demonstration of this nature could easily have a negative effect on other visitors.

Tyldesley,

Manchester.
