At the June meeting of the Tenby and Saundersfoot branch of the Labour Party, the chairman, Tony Wales, welcomed all members to the final meeting of this year, prior to the annual summer barbeque. It was good to see a large number of members present, though apologies were given for half-a- dozen members who were ill, on holiday or busy with work commitments.

During correspondence, the secretary was able to announce that two more new members had been added to the membership roll since the last meeting.

The chairman's report was very brief as there had been nothing of import to report from the last general committee meeting in Narberth, when MP Nick Ainger was present, or from the County Party. Tony did have, however, five policy documents from Labour Party headquarters, which were to be discussed over the summer, and would necessitate a response as to the branch's thoughts and feelings about projected matters. Several members volunteered to take a policy document to 'read and inwardly digest' and report back to members at the September meeting. After the Lottery draw update and any other business, it was the time for guest speaker Adrian Bevan to give his address. Adrian was speaking as a London branch chairman of the very vocal and busy Public Civil Service Union, and his talk was headed 'The Role of Trade Unions in the Modern Workplace.'

After his effective and forceful speech, there were some very interesting questions and comments about Adrian's perceptions and experiences, and how they endorse some of the members thinking. There was an interesting discussion about the question of rural Post Offices, and a desire for more information regarding alternative types of service to be made available. The meeting could have gone on longer, but the chairman felt that he must call a stop to allow Adrian and the members to get some lunch! The raffle was drawn and won by Maria.

The chairman then reminded everyone about the summer fund-raising barbeque taking place on Sunday, June 29, a week earlier then usual, and to ask for everyone's support. A two-course meal and soft drinks are available at £6 per head. Any enquiries to be made to the secretary Marjorie on (01834) 842604.
