Three kitesurfers took part in a charity challenge on Saturday, raising £1,500 for the Paul Murch Huntington's Disease Trust Fund. Paul is a local lad from Tenby who has inherited Huntington's and the monies raised will help him in his later stages of the disease. The Tenby to Pendine sponsored kitesurf was undertaken by Marco Hernandez, Kevin Cheeseman and Nick Merrony, while two support boats were skippered by Angelo Fecci and Mark Hicks. "With strong SSW winds of 20 mph increasing to 30 mph, the crossing took one hour and 40 minutes," said Marco. "This challenging day under tough conditions raised approximately £1,500." But the event could not have taken place without the support of local businesses, including Walk on Water, Pembrokeshire on the web, Phonescope, the Hean Castle Pub, the Bush Inn, The Forum Cafe, Fiveways Garage, New Hedges Mini Market and the Normandie Pub. Added Marco: "Also, a big thank you goes to all the local people of Tenby and the surrounding area who were happy to put there hands in their pockets for this worthwhile cause.  "Most importantly, this event could not have taken place without the two safety boats supplied by Tenby Harbour and Tenby Sailing Club. A big thanks to our skippers and assistants on board who made it possible." This sponsored kitesurf will become an annual event, with talks of a crossing to Cornwall next year. You can show your continued support by either donating money or buying t-shirts from Walk on Water (Saundersfoot or Tenby shop) kindly produced by Sweet T's Printing and Embroidery, with all proceeds going to the charity.
