LOCAL youngsters were recently able to experience life below decks on board the warship HMS Belfast. Imagine the excitement of returning to kip in your own bunk on this magical boat lit up on the Thames close to the famous London landmarks of St. Paul's and Tower Bridge.
The young people were helped to understand what it would have been like to survive on the ship during its freezing trips to Russia in the Second World War, when sailors would have had to sleep in a hammock, spending all their day working, or in cramped confines.
Kizzie Tooby, 12-year-old founder of the Friend Makers Club, who helped to organise the trip, said: "We saw some sights, with a little bit of shopping thrown in (poor boys!) -but best of all we slept on HMS Belfast! We were helped to go on this trip by funding from Pembrokeshire Youth Bank." This 'kip on the ship' was partially funded by Pembrokeshire Youth Bank, an organisation run by young people that gives money to suitable ventures. "Thanks Youth Bank!"
