Plans by BT to remove a telephone kiosk near Tenby's Battery Gardens should be resisted the town council agreed this week.
Speaking on Tuesday night, Clr. Mickey Folland explained that it had been brought to his attention that BT intended to remove the kiosk.
He felt that it was important the telephone remain, particularly in an emergency, as the nearest pay phone to the area was either at Tenby railway station or on St. Florence Parade.
Clr. Mrs. Maureen Ward agreed.
"It is vital this remains, particularly with the Jubilee play area nearby," she stressed.
It was pointed out by Clr. Trevor Hallett that BT had expressed their intention to remove all non-profitable pay 'phones from the town earlier in the year.
A list of all such kiosks had been supplied, with the council's comments sought, and he felt that the council may now have difficulty in getting the 'phone firm to change its mind.
"At the time, the proximity of the Battery Gardens to the Jubilee and what could happen in an emergency, slipped our minds," said Clr. Mrs. Ward. "We can but try."
