Hillcroft holiday site in Kilgetty has been awarded third place in a national award chosen by the country's caravanners. The Caravan Club represents the interests of over 850,000 caravanners, motor caravanners and trailer tenters. Each year members are asked to vote for their favourite holiday spot from some 2,600 small, informal sites known as Certificated Locations, or CLs for short. CLs can take up to five caravans, motor caravans or trailer tents at any one time and are for the exclusive use of Caravan Club members. Bruce and Ann Regimbal, the site owners, have operated Hillcroft for five years. The picturesque and peaceful site is set in approximately two-and-a-quarter acres and surrounded with countryside and sea views. The popular seaside resorts of Tenby and Saundersfoot, both with beautiful sandy beaches, are only a very short distance away. Visitors to the site are assured of a warm welcome and friendly chat, so much so, one day Bruce was pottering in his workshop when a club member strolled down from the site to say hello. They enjoyed a lengthy chat and after about 20 minutes said cheerio. "Oops," said Bruce's visitor, "I almost forgot what I had come down for. Do you have a screwdriver so I can unlock the door as my wife has locked herself in the toilet!" The Regimbals commented: "We are thoroughly enjoying running Hillcroft CL and have made friends with some lovely people. Receiving the third place award has really put the icing on the cake and we would like to thank the members for voting for our site. We would also like to say a huge thank you to our two sons, Paul and Jason, for their support with running the CL." Bruce and Ann Regimbal travelled to London on March 22 for the award ceremony at the House of Commons, where they were presented with a trophy and a cheque for £200 by Tim Yeo MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Environment and Transport. The awards have traditionally been held at Westminster in recognition of the fact that it was Parliament that opened the door to CLs via the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960. Also celebrating success in the competition were joint regional winners, Brian and Jean Lewis, of the Coppins, Pentlepoir. This is the fourth time the couple have been successful, being previous regional winners in 1997, 1998 and 2000.
