The venue this month was Milford Haven GC, a course exposed to winds from the south-west which have been rather severe lately. Fortunately, they had abated in time for us to enjoy the challenges of the fairways and greens (writes JJ).
There was a good turnout, with 23 participants, one a new member - welcome to Keith 'The Director' Loverston.
Five threesomes and two fourballs were selected. The leading group were Mark Skids Brindley, Rick Shamrock Lewis and Steve Dentures Allen. They found the course tricky, nobody reaching 30 points.
Next away were Darrell Romeo Jones, Mark Angel Wood and Simon Pieman Davies, a strong combination, but a poor round from Romeo nearly lost them the team prize.
Third on the tee were Steve Eleanor Rigby, Wynne Abacus Richards and John Scribe James. Eleanor had a few near misses on the green, while the other two lost several balls! The yellow ball disappeared into the old farmyard on the 12th thanks to an unusually poor drive by Eleanor.
Following them were Glyn Semi-Colon Jones, Barry Chippy Wood and Roger Commentator Handcock. Having recently returned to playing, Semi-Colon was not back to form and had visions of a wooden spoon. Chippy was on target for the par threes, birdying two of them and having nearest the pin.
The final threesome were Keith The Director Loverston, Barrie Gravel Avery and Wayne Gypsy Connett. The Gypsy has had some very good rounds of late, but became another in danger of a piece of wood!
First of the foursomes were Dennis Olla Holloway, Mike Doc Bannister, Wyn Nomad Hopkins and Adrian Ambulance Allman. Last month's winner, Olla again put himself in with the chance of a prize and another handicap cut. The Nomad got lost in the bush and struggled to reach 20 points, while his partners all had 30 or more.
Last on the tee were Stuart Delboy Evans, Richard Nelson Davies, John Homer Perrott and Mike Handyman Thomas. Only one managed to pass 30 and another failed to reach 20, but did have a long drive!
The greens were very good, but some of the pin positions were tricky - probably why no came close to 40 points.
After an excellent meal and liquid refreshments, the presentations began. In first place with 36 pts was Simon Pieman Davies, one point ahead of Dennis Olla Holloway and Keith The Director Loverston.
Over 20 handicap winner was John Homer Perrott with 24 pts. OAP winner was John Scribe James with 33 pts. Nearest the pin went to Barry Chippy Wood together with two 2s, Rick Shamrock Lewis also had a two. Winner of the longest drive was Stuart Delboy Evans, who also took the wooden spoon - let's not mention his score!
Team prize went to Mark Woody Wood, Darrell Romeo Jones and Simon Pieman Davies; this trio also returned their yellow ball and took the prize - there are quite a few yellow balls hidden in the rough!
Many thanks to Woody for organising the outing. The next meeting will be at Earlswood in Swansea on July 14.
