Haverfordwest Golf Club provided the setting for this month's outing. The turnout was not as good as usual, only 15 braved the elements.
However, the day was dry and not too windy, conditions reflecting some excellent scores.
A warm welcome was given to three new recruits, Ed 'Grizzly' Prichard, John 'Sweetwater' Sheppard and Peter 'Huggy' Hughes - we hope to see you all again next month.
Leading the way were Barry 'Chippy' Wood, John 'Sweetwater' Sheppard and Bob 'Bart' Simpson. Playing the course for the first time, Bob and John had reasonable scores, Barry was his normal steady self, but missed a few putts that should have dropped in.
Next off were Mark 'Woody' Wood, John 'Scribe' James and Tony 'Theodolite' Mathias. Both Mark and John had a day off and struggled to keep out of the wooden spoon zone. But Tony, playing on his home course, was knocking in putts from all angles and distances with one birdie and numerous pars. John's birdie on the 17th put him one ahead of Mark and out of the wooden spoon area!
Teeing off next were Peter 'Huggy' Hughes, Glyn 'Caravan' Latham and Glyn 'Da'Loo' Jones. Peter and Glyn 'Da Loo' had problems, but Glyn 'Caravan' had no trouble with the course, scoring a magnificent 40 points, a target for the handicapper's scissors.
A strong trio of Steve 'Eleanor' Rigby, Steve 'Oars' Jones and Ed 'Grizzly' Prichard were next away. Steve 'Eleanor', playing on his home course, coached his partners to good scores whilst posting a very good score himself.
Bringing up the rear were Rick 'Megane' Lewis, Tim 'Gavel' Davies and John 'Sparrow' Hargrave. Rick's good form of last month continued, scoring 35 points, but not good enough for a prize. Tim failed to show his true form and John made heavy weather of the course, maybe the cold got to his legs!
After a superb meal, the prize giving took place and results were as follows: 1. Glyn 'Caravan' 40 pts; 2. Steve 'Eleanor' 38; 3. Tony 'Theodolite' 37; Over 20 handicap - Ed 'Grizzly' 34; OAP - Barry 'Chippy' 32; Nearest the pin - Steve 'Oars'; Longest drive - Glyn 'Caravan'; Wooden Spoon - John 'Sparrow' 24; Team prize -Steves 'Oars and Eleanor' and Ed 'Grizzly' 106.
Once again, thanks to 'Woody' for his organisation of venue and raffle prizes etc.
Next month's venue is still being sought, but it will be on June 10. Please let Mark or Barry know if you wish to play. Should you find that you are unable to attend (after booking a place), please let them know as soon as possible.
