Father pips son for the yellow hat
Milford Golf Club was the venue for last week's Kilgetty Golf Society outing. The course was in excellent condition and the weather ideal. Unfortunately, numbers were down, with only 14 available. Rick Lewis made a welcome return.
Leading the way were Gary 'Speed-date' Hopkins, Rick 'Megane' Lewis and Barry 'Chippy' Wood, followed by Mark 'Woody' Wood, Steve 'Eleanor' Rigby and Tim 'Gavel' Davies.
First of the foursomes were Mike 'Janitor' Thomas, Stewart 'Smokey-Joe' Evans, Roger 'elf'n safety' Handcock and Trevor 'Santa' Lewis.
They were followed by Richard 'Nelson' Davies, Martin 'Del Boy' Davies, John 'Geordie' Hargraves and Steve 'Oars' Jones.
The good conditions produced a few handicap-cutting scores, with 'Chippy' Wood taking first place from 'Woody' Wood, both scoring 41 pts, 'Chippy' having a better back nine.
In third place was Rick Lewis on 37. 'Santa' Lewis won the OAP prize and Roger 'elf'n safety' Handcock won the 20 and over handicap prize. Nearest the pin winner was 'Eleanor' Rigby and longest drive went to 'Woody' Wood. Once again, the wooden spoon was handed to 'Janitor' Thomas - give someone else a chance Mike!
Team prize went to 'Woody', 'Eleanor' and 'Gavel' - well played. There were two Birdie 2s, 'Woody' and 'Eleanor'.
After a superb meal of roast pork with all the trimmings, plus sweet, all for £8, there was a long discussion about the format of the outings. A move to an outing every other month was an option, however, it was agreed that the format would remain as it is.
November away-day will be on Wednesday the 12th, venue 'local' to be arranged. Please 'phone 'Woody' on (01834) 860579 or 'Chippy' on (01834) 812699 nearer the date with your availability. If they don't hear from you, they will assume that you are unavailable.
Looking ahead, January meeting will be at Celtic Manor on the Roman Road course. Cost will be £30 each, including a two-course meal. Names and fees must be paid by Wednesday, December 10. Celtic Manor has to be paid in advance. Remember, this is the course that hosts the Welsh Open Championships and is well worth playing.
I know 'cos I've played there!
