Certificates of achievement

The following nominees received their Certificates of Achievement on Thursday, November 8: Jean Roberts co-ordinates the local branch of the 'Talking Newspaper Association for the Blind'. On behalf of five teams of five people, she devotes considerable time and effort voluntarily to co- ordinate the processing of tapes and the contact with the 50 or so recipients. This service provides a vital local news lifeline for the blind and visually- impaired around the area. Kath Barrett was nominated for her voluntary work which she has carried out tirelessly for the community for many years, being a founder member of the Environment Group of the Community Association and initiating the flowering beds and also using her sewing machine during the winter months making curtains for the Community Centre and bunting and banners for the carnival. Margaret Moffat was initially a planting volunteer, helping to create the village flower beds. She has become a leading member of the Environmental Group, every year raising and planting out hundreds of plants for the village beds. Her commitment to all aspects of community volunteering, including the Calor Gas competition, the Community Garden and re-activating the Kilgetty website is an inspiration to everyone. Rose Jenkins has for many years kept Kilgetty Cricket Club going. Despite many setbacks, Rose works tirelessly to raise funds and organise the teams. The Certificate of Achievement is awarded to any individual or group of people who residents think should be nominated for their good deeds and volunteering their time and effort for the good of the community. If you know of a person or group who deserves a certificate, then please write to the clerk, Mrs. Janet Ward, at the Community Centre, Carmarthen Road, Kilgetty, tel. 07919 837745.
