Actor Robert Powell and former England ladies cricket captain Rachel Heyhoe-Flint made a celebrity visit to Oakwood Park on Sunday, May 27, as part of a special day out for underprivileged children from all over Wales.

The two VIP guests, presidents of the Lord and Lady Taverners, joined more than 200 youngsters and their carers at a special Kids Day Out at the theme park organised by The Lady Taverners for the fifth consecutive year.

The children from Heronsbridge School in Bridgend, Crownbridge Special School in Pontypool, Moorland Primary School in Cardiff, The Priory Project in Milford Haven, Glyn Taf House in Login, The Barnardos Project in Pembroke Dock and Pembrokeshire Activity Schemes enjoyed free entry and lunch courtesy of the Oakwood directors.

The groups are all recipients of Lord or Lady Taverners mini-buses and were hosted by West Wales region of the Lady Taverners headed by Jane Kemp and her team of seven Lady Taverners.

Said organiser Lady Taverner Jane Kemp: "We were delighted to welcome Robert and Rachel and would like to say a big thank you to Oakwood Park for making such a wonderful event possible."

During the course of the day, the children met popular BBC TV children's character Bob the Builder who was VIP guest at Oakwood Park over the nine days of the Whitsun holidays.

Last year, 283 children and carers joined the Kids Day Out at Oakwood Park from special schools across Wales hosted by local celebrity Brian Harries.
