The service at Augustus Place, Tenby, started with some lively worship led by Dawn Harris. Colin Joy convened the meeting and sprung a surprise on a members of the congregation. He asked Alex Sikiniotis, a young single mum, to give her testimony without giving her prior warning!
She gave the account of how she once told God to prove Himself to her. Within days a girl came up to her in a pub and told her that God had sent her to talk to Alex. High on drugs, Alex realised that this was her proof. The effect of the drugs suddenly disappeared and Alex was left in tears.
The other girl became Alex's best friend and housemate. They are part of the new generation of youth who earnestly seek God's power and presence, more often than not coming across it in an amazing way.
Peter Johnson preached an outstanding sermon on becoming hot and staying hot for God. God would rather a Christian be hot or cold, but not lukewarm. (Rev. 3 v 15-16). A lukewarm Christian can't make their minds up about God. Not knowing whether or not God is 'the flavour of the month.' Someone who is lukewarm has most likely been in love with Jesus, known the power of God, thought about him constantly, had a revelation of the immensity of the Holy Spirit, but has somehow lost their passion.
Peter explained that God loves a lukewarm Christian, but hates the fact that they're lukewarm. God has created a path for the mediocre people to come back to a state of boiling point with excitement for Christ! "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous, therefore, and repent. Behold. I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come into him and will dine with him and he with me" (Rev. 3 v 19-20 KJV).
The message to any lukewarm Christian is - just open the door! Let Jesus back into your life and come back to your first love.
This Sunday's speaker is Paul Dando.
