Juliet Turner, a celebrated young Irish pop/folk songwriter who stumbled into making music, is playing at Narberth's Queen'S Hall next Saturday, February 11. Juliet started writing songs in her mid-teens, and in 1996, whilst at university in Glasgow, recorded her debut album, 'Let's Hear it for Pizza.' Moving to Dublin, she started to play live shows, and made such an impression on that city's competitive music scene that she was soon opening shows for Bob Dylan, Gabrielle, Sting, U2, and Brian Adams, and touring with the likes of Joan Armatrading, Brian Kennedy, and Roger McGuinn. In 2000, Juliet released her second CD, 'Burn The Black Suit,' which went double-platinum in Ireland and was voted one of the 100 all-time Irish albums by Hot Press magazine readers. In 2004, 'Season of the Hurricane' also went platinum, boosted by the Radio Two hit 'Everything Beautiful is Burning.' And in 2005, Juliet won the prestigious Meteor Music Award for Best Irish Female Performer. Live, Juliet performs her 'pop veering into darker territory' in a quietly confident style, interspersed with flashes of wicked humour; with her 'shy yet sultry, strong but fragile' voice, beautifully articulate wide-ranging songs, and eccentric off- the-cuff inter-song anecdotes, this is a unique performer ... prepare to be drawn in and bowled over. Doors open at 8.30 pm and tickets, priced £8, are available by telephoning (01834) 861212.
