The Lawrenny Community Shop CIC is putting on some events in the village to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next month.
The Lawrenny Community Shop CIC - a social enterprise that provides a shop for this small community, which won the Calor Village of the Year competition in 2007 - will kick off proceedings on Sunday, June 3, from 3 pm onwards, when people are asked to go along and help decorate the Haynes Boatshed for the Twmpath to be held the following day.
The celebrations will start on the Monday with a walking tour of Lawrenny between 11 am and 2 pm, with the team at 'Walk with Friends'.
The trip will be approximately three miles, some uphill/downhill, and the paths could be muddy in places. Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch and a drink, while a donation to the group would be appreciated.
Next up, between 3 and 5 pm, there will be family games on the land adjacent to the church, including a tug of war, bouncy castle etc, and also the judging of a children's fancy dress competition (theme Kings/Queens, Princes/Princesses) at 4.45 pm.
Also between 3 and 5 pm, there will be an exhibition in the Village Hall of the 'Walk with Friends CIC Engagement Gateway Project', with refreshments (which those participating in the family games might want to use too).
The Jubilee celebrations will continue from 5 to 7 pm, with a bring and share BBQ outside the shop, before the Twmpath (barn dance) takes place between 7 and 10 pm in the Haynes Boatshed, with music and callers supplied by the Heb Ebw Celidh Band.
Novices are welcome and a cash bar will be available on the evening.
