Half-term fun is promised in Pembrokeshire to celebrate the first National Family Week (May 25-31).

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority is joining all the National Parks in the UK to mark the initiative which is being launched this year with backing from Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Hundreds of events and competitions are happening across the country, with schools, charities, councils and celebrities all joining in the fun.

Events organised by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority include a National Park scavenger hunt at Carew Castle; bulb planting and flowerpot decorating at Oriel y Parc; a wildlife shore search at Freshwater East and Celtic fun at Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort.

Clr. Mike Evans, the National Park Authority's lead member for sustainable tourism, recreation and access, said: "We're delighted to support National Family Week. The National Park is the perfect place for families to enjoy a day out together.

"We all have such busy lives and this week gives parents and guardians the chance to take some time out and enjoy some quality time with their children.

"So whether it's a picnic on the beach or a day joining in one of our organised activities, we really hope people will take this opportunity to make the most of what's on offer in their National Park and have some fun."
