A rewarding pat on the shoulder from John Mathias for the six-year-old bay gelding, One to Note, as he wins the Restricted Race at the Pembrokeshire Hunt point to point meeting held at Trecoed, near Fishguard, at the weekend.
It was so pleasing to see young John firmly back in the saddle again after securing the OK following concussion checks necessary after a fall at Bredwardine three weeks earlier.
Only completing his third season, John, son of trainers Philip and Jan Mathias, is the winner of both of the West Wales Riders championships for the 2008/09 steeplechasing season.
The lady rider's award goes to Jodie Hughes and the novice rider's trophy to Paul Tolman.
