There has been a jobs blow for Tenby this week, with the shock announcement that Reeve Calendars is to close its doors in the town.

The company, which has been based in Tenby for the last 50 years, issued a statement on Wednesday in which it said it regretted the closure, but a decision had been taken to move production to its head office in Essex.

This had followed a period of consultation with the staff, with the closure of the Tenby site, at the rear of Knowling Mead, occurring at the end of this month.

As a result of the closure, 13 full and part-time staff will be made redundant or are taking retirement, but the company was pleased to report that “some people have already found new employment in the area.”

“Reeve has fully supported the staff through this process and has utilised outsourcing advice to provide career transition assistance,” said a spokesperson.

“The rationale for this extremely difficult decision is that the company firmly believes that by operating Reeve Calendars through the very latest print technologies in Essex, it will strengthen and increase efficiency, productivity and service.”

Reeve is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of printed business calendars.

They say that the move is a necessary modification to keep ahead of the changing market place.

The owners stress that they are fully committed to and confident in the Reeve business and that by having its production facilities in one location, it will better serve its customers in the market.
