On Sunday, Trinity 8 was the Feast Day of St. James, the Apostle. The Rector officiated at Jeffreyston and Reynalton, while Rev. Sylvia Temple officiated at Lawrenny. The text for the day was from Matthew's Gospel, Chapter 20 vv26-27 were unlike in Mark's Gospel, Matthew does not tell us that James and John requested places at Jesus's right hand, but he tells us that their mother asked on their behalf. But James and John must quickly have realised that to share Jesus's mission is to share his suffering. Jesus says that his disciples show their authority through service. To serve God is to be free from any other kind of slavery.
At 6 pm, Evensong in the Garden was held at Bubbleton Cottage, Cresswell Quay, (pictured) kindly hosted by Janet and Steve Williams, a perfect setting amongst friends to give glory to God. Mr. Bob Lewis, Lay Reader, officiated and preached at Evensong taking for his text, the words of 'The Lord's Prayer'. Bob explained that often when we repeat something often, perhaps the meaning is lost and becomes over familiar. Janet and Steve had prepared a superb tea for those attending to partake in after the service and on behalf of all those who attended, thanks is offered for their generosity.
